yoshi Posted June 28, 2024 Report Posted June 28, 2024 That's weird, I'd have thought even the IOC would be ok with trailers being viewed abroad! More standard BBC animation than Tokyo's trailer - it really feels like the Olympics are here now Quote
Durban Sandshark Posted June 29, 2024 Report Posted June 29, 2024 Same here with the geoblocking (at least for now). Although I do wish the BBC would offer even more as far as the Scottish, Welsh, and Irish coverage, while presently nice on their own as it stands, on the visual side and maybe focus on sports with Team GB's Scottish, Welsh, and Irish participants in team sports like SRC/Radio-Canada and RDS does. No major that Swedish/American Olympic gold medalist pole vaulter Armand "Mondo" Duplantis is the face of Warner Bros. Discovery Sverige's face in a humuorous new Swedish summer vacation trip retro-like campaign film when the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 move into Kanal 5/Max. Entitled Duplantis is ready for the Olympics. TVMax's Paris 2024 coverage, not surprisingly, will prioritize Panama's Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Team: https://www.instagram.com/tvmaxdeporte/reel/C8xsD0BAoKf/ CBC's Scott Russell, a Canadian Screen Award winner as well as numerous other awards and 3x book author, will retire from broadcasting after his Paris 2024 CBC Summer Olympic and Paralympic contributions after nearly 40 years there mostly in sports including stops in Charlottetown and Montreal before becoming a Nipissing University chancellor in North Bay, Ontario. Has an honorary doctorate there. During the Paris Games, Russell will host Bell Paris Prime from the City of Lights, starting July 27. The program will feature the day's biggest sporting events, including swimming, athletics and Canada's appearances in basketball and soccer with "genuine passion for sports and his vast knowledge of athletes, past and present, has helped to inspire and ignite the country around global sporting competitions for close to four decades...His contributions to CBC Sports' coverage over the years, across all platforms, cannot be understated and his authentic commitment to Canadian athletes and Canadian sport remains unwavering." Here goes. Belgians on the Flemish side will be able to follow everything closely via 4 livestreams on VRT MAX, sporza.be, and in the Sporza app. This way, they can choose which Olympic discipline they desire to see--and will also be able to zoom in on the image and simultaneously follow the sound of another livestream. Sports fans in Belgium don't have to miss any of the most important action thanks to four permanent live streams on VRT MAX, sporza.be and in the Sporza app. You will soon run out of eyes, but fortunately different sports can be followed at the same time. From taekwondo to breaking to swimming and athletics. The live streams also include some special features such as the ability to zoom in on the image and follow the audio of another live stream. Thanks to an online guide, you get a complete overview of what is on offer at any time and you can surf the Olympic wave. The Sporza website and app will also present a new look to be even more user-friendly. On the TV side, Belgians will follow the whole day on TV with live broadcasts on VRT1/Een of 'Sporza: Paris 2024' starts between 9 and 10 am. Imke Courtois will present as anchor the morning segment, Tess Elst the afternoon. Goedele Wachters, the VRT NWS news anchor, is trading in the news service for a while to present the evening block. Canvas will be a part of this like recent Summer Olympics during the news or when many compatriots are in action at the same time, you can also switch to VRT Canvas and after 8 pm to Ketnet. After the 7pm news on VRT1 there's 'Studio Olympia', an Olympic version of Sportweekend, with Catherine Van Eylen as presenter. Late in the evening Karl Vannieuwkerke takes over the torch with 'Paris By Night' from the Lotto Belgium House. From the Lotto Belgium House, the meeting center for supporters and athletes in Paris, Vannieuwkerke will analyze the daily performances of the Belgians, discuss the Olympic news and look ahead to what is yet to come. He does this together with former cyclist Greg Van Avermaet, former sprinter Kim Gevaert and former basketball player Ann Wauters. Former track athlete Elodie Ouedraogo, and TV maker Thomas Huyghe as anchor sidekicks. Paris By Night, a program by Woestijnvis for VRT, also pays tribute to the Olympic past and focusing on current Olympic affairs. The City of Light has already hosted the world's largest sporting event twice before. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the Olympic Games, takes us back 100 years in time every day, to the 1924 Games. Anyone who wants to prepare for the Olympic Games can get started with the VRT MAX series 'Bert and Bavo Go Olympic'. Former cyclist Bert De Backer and Sporza face Bavo Mortier take on a series of crash courses with Belgian top athletes. They get to know the athlete and his or her discipline with blood, sweat and tears. Everything will be followed closely and perhaps emotionally and intensely on the radio side and everywhere on the radio at the same time. On Radio 1, the day traditionally starts with De Ochtend between 6 and 9 am and then the Olympic Radio 1 baton gets passed to Vincent Byloo. In 'Radio 1's Sports Summer: Olympic Games' Byloo puts an Olympic sport in the spotlight every day. Together with Linde Merckpoel, Vincent also supports a remarkable participant every day during the Games. Between 12 and 1 p.m. there is 'Paris Midi' on Radio 1, with Dave Peters and Bart Schols. In the afternoon Steffy Merlevede takes the listener back to the games in Paris. Between 4 and 6 pm, sports and current affairs are mixed, to focus again on the Olympic action from 6 to 10 p.m. with presenters Gert Geens and Jonathan Metdepenninghen. "During the Olympic Games, we are everywhere on the radio at the same time. All emotions come through even more intensely on the radio, and that certainly produces radio moments during the Games that are etched in my memory," says Steffy Merlevede. MNM and Radio2 are also participating. In 'The Olympic Morning Show' of MNM, Evelyn De Backer goes in search of the biggest supporters. During 'The Olympic Evening Show', from 4 to 7 pm, Dorianne Aussems and Imane Boudadi are the eyes and ears of MNM in Paris. Their radio studio is set up in the Lotto Belgium House, but Dorianne and Imane also visit the stands, go on a discovery in the sports city of Paris and celebrate all the small and big achievements of the Belgian athletes. Radio2 will broadcast from Blankenberge this summer and will be present at the Olympic Festival in Middelkerke during the Olympic Games. There, the Belgian Olympic Committee BOIC transforms the beach into a supporters' village with large screens, performances and sports initiations. Radio2 reporter Stan Vanderwaeren follows the sports performances of Team Belgium together with the supporters and he can also receive the Belgian athletes after their matches. For the Belgian athletes, the Olympic Games are the moment they have been working towards for a long time. The new TV program Mission Medal gets into the heads of 5 of the biggest contenders for a medal. Each episode tells the story of 1 Belgian athlete or team that dreams of a medal at the Paris Games: Lotte Kopecky (cycling), Oshin Derieuw (Olympic boxing), 3x3 Lions (3x3 basketball), Red Lions (hockey) and the Belgian Cats (basketball). The result is 5 unique portraits of strong and intriguing sports personalities that give the viewer a glimpse into their quest for eternal fame. Will they write sports history or will they succumb to pressure? The 5 episodes in which VRT follows the athletes during their preparations for Paris can be viewed on Streamz from July 19. This fall, the episodes can also be viewed on VRT 1 and Streamz, with the results of their performances at the Olympic Games. https://www.vrt.be/nl/over-de-vrt/nieuws/2024/06/27/mis-niets-van-de-belgische-prestaties-op-de-olympische-en-paraly/ https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2024/06/27/zo-kan-je-de-olympische-spelen-volgen-op-vrt/ Additional details on VRT Radio's Paris 2024 coverage, both Summer Olympics and Paralympics, can be seen here on the link below. TV5MONDE's social networks will relay each day the programming of the events scheduled to air as well as the highlights of the day: the medals of the day, focus on African athletes, on the emblematic sports of the Olympic Games, as well as the French-speaking highlights. On all TV5MONDE channels, TV5MONDE news editions will announce the results and highlights of the Olympic events. The TV5MONDE news site will present articles on the highlights of the games and will present portraits of French-speaking athletes.https://information.tv5monde.com/. Surprised swimming isn't a part of the coverage schedule--and it's anchor sport. Africa has been a part of that, even if it's predominately South Africa. Again, TV5Monde Afrique should emulate SuperSport more with the latter's Olympic coverage breath and depth: https://presse.tv5monde.com/tv5monde-afrique-diffuseur-officiel-des-jeux-olympiques-paris-2024/ RTBF presents, given that these Olympics are based in a French-speaking nation, Les Jeux De La Fontaine, an Olympic-inspired French-language humorous animated series with each episode lasting 2 minutes based on La Fontaine's famous fables, the animals will discover sport and its most beautiful values in a new light. From July 1st, all 2-minute episodes will be available on Auvio and AuvioKids TV. Every four years, the best athletes in the animal kingdom gather for their own version of the Olympic Games: "The Fountain Games". Dog, Crow, Frog, Bear, Fox and many others challenge each other in a series of sporting events to determine who will be the Phoenix of the hosts of these woods. From athletics to para-swimming to skateboarding, no event will be spared our valiant athletes! And for once, the eponymous show will broadcast the competition. To accompany you in the studios and on the field, the star presenters Charlotte, Léo, Pierre, Eve and Odile will share their passion and expertise by commentating on the matches, fights or races with bite (for those who have teeth) and sting (for those who have beaks). May the best win! Created by Benjamin Richard, directed by Florian Thouret with Margo Roquelaure for the graphic design, Les Jeux de La Fontaine is co-produced by the public media of several countries (France, Switzerland, Canada ...) including RTBF. It is a new original series of short humorous animated programs produced by the Caribara studio which had won the call for tenders. Among the animals launched into the Olympic Games competition, we find Charlotte Harfang, an owl with a Canadian accent, Pierre le Coq, with a French accent, Odile Croc, a Congolese crocodile, and Léo de Meyer...a lion who roars with a Belgian accent! Colorful characters who will introduce the Olympic spirit and values to children from the age of six. On AuvioKids TV, discover an episode every weekday at 8:30 am Belgium time from July 8 to August 9, or at 7:55 pm from July 22 to August 9. On Saturdays and Sundays, an episode will be broadcast at 7:55 pm from July 6 to August 11: https://www.rtbf.be/article/les-jeux-de-la-fontaine-la-serie-animee-pour-faire-decouvrir-l-esprit-olympique-aux-enfants-11394638 Quote
Cyriln Posted July 2, 2024 Report Posted July 2, 2024 French TV schedules for July 26 have been released. France 2 will start its opening ceremony coverage at 6:30 am (it's not a mistake between am and pm, they start 13 hours before the ceremony). During the opening ceremony, the two biggest channels that doesn't have the broadcasting rights will show a rerun of a blooper show and a movie that nobody cares: they already gave up. Also, the first two episodes of the official documentary series will be aired on prime time on July 22, and another documentary about the French medal prospects on July 23. (A lot of other documentaries are planned, but not on prime time) Quote

I'm not sure they'll reach that score, though. Quote

Lillehammer 94, with Ladies' single skating and Surya Bonaly, 16.6 million viewers. The absolute record (besides presidential speeches about Covid, that were broadcasted on almost all channels) is the 2018 World Cup final: 26.2 million (25.1M in 2022, 23.6M in 1998, 22.3M for Euro 2016, 22.1M in 2006) Quote

yoshi Posted July 2, 2024 Report Posted July 2, 2024 Yeah the election must've taken some energy away from the buildup - another of the 253 reasons why (it seems from this distance anyway, obviously none of our business but even so) the decision to call elections when Macron did seemed downright crazy. Maybe he just wanted to outdo Rishi Quote
FYI Posted July 2, 2024 Report Posted July 2, 2024 I'm just SMH at this point. Since it looks like Macron just had a knee-jerk reaction to the European elections (& the soapbox that it's become). And actually, how often are those held? A pity that these last ones had to take place only 6-7 weeks before the Olympics. Quote

Ugh, so the timing couldn't have been any worse (in terms of the Olympics anyway)! But yes, mid-terms, for the most part, at least here in the U.S. also usually serve as a "reprimand" for the party that's currently in office. But these last U.S. midterms in 2022 were anything but, despite the so-called "red wave" that was predicted. Let's hope (& pray) that trend continues in Nov! Quote
Durban Sandshark Posted July 2, 2024 Report Posted July 2, 2024 France Televisions Sports Director Laurent-Eric Le Lay appeared as a guest of Valérie Expert and Gilles Ganzmann on Sud Radio on July 2, 2024 in "Le 10h - midi". He mentions and promotes the general info about France TV's broadcasting structure what's already mentioned multiple times--like both France 3 and France 3 will carry over 50 hours a day combined, France 2 will focus on the anchor sports with France 3 handling team sports. Both will focus on hosts L'Equipe France on its journey "in each of the events following the French athletes" to win multiple medals and aims to rally the whole France nation to them. Third digital channel. Just examples. When asked why doesn't either France 2 and France 3 transforms into and go entirely 100% Olympics all day at the expense of other programming and disappointing those who aren't into sports (it should if not both, IMO) Le Lay replies: Quote "Our bet is that the Games will interest all French people. Because this event is not only sporting, it is also social. We have seen in the past that when a sporting event is organized on the national territory, there is always a surplus audience. We saw it with the Rugby World Cup in September 2023.” https://www-sudradio-fr.translate.goog/medias/laurent-eric-le-lay-couverture-jeux-olympiques-france-televisions?_x_tr_sl=fr&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc A new Olympic collaboration between France Televisions and INA results in offering 20 videos of legendary (mostly) French Olympic moments appearing on both their social networks and available on the france.tv platform to relive with the original French calls in Replay and Je Me Souviens--a commentator recounts the behind-the-scenes of the most intense and historic moments of the Olympic Games of the last decades: https://the-media-leader.fr/lina-et-france-televisions-devoilent-replay-et-jeux-me-souviens-deux-formats-videos-pour-revoir-les-jo/ Also it looks as though France Televisions will present live coverage of behind the scenes Opening Ceremony footage. There's a link to this but we can't get anything of that because it says access denied. 2 hours ago, Cyriln said: French TV schedules for July 26 have been released. Ok, what about those pre-Olympic men's and women's soccer, team handball, men's rugby 7s, and even archery matches we would assume France 2 and France 3 expect to air? Once again ORF1 is airing its Austrian Olympic Team Lotteries Farewell Party live from Vienna this time on July 10. Hosted by Alina Zellhofer and Lukas Schweighofer and will be interviewing Austrian athletes and talking to Austrian Olympic Committee leaders. Airing for 90 minutes on 17:55 CET: https://tv.orf.at/program/orf1/xxxiiiolym100.html No official news regarding Paraguay's Paris 2024 broadcasting plans have emerged just yet. Previously, it was SNT from Grupo Albavision in Tokyo. But SNT didn't transmit the Summer Olympics over extended hour blocks; it only appeared whenever a Paraguayan athlete competed along with the Opening Ceremony. From from this promo below, ABC TV Paraguay--definitely NOT the American ABC that famously aired the Olympics from 1964-1988--and Rolanga are going to broadcast the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics under a Paraguayan bent in multiple platforms with Jorge ''Chipi'' Vera and Daniel Chung. Vowing to show everything: Following is where you can see the Kanal 5/Eurosport Sverige/HBO Max Paris 2024 sportscaster list. It notes there are more of them forthcoming. Just about every Summer Olympic sport is represented here to have Swedish calls. Plenty of them are returning from Tokyo and more expansive than ever but...For one thing, I did notice some no shows: men's and women's soccer has no analyst/expert right now. Former women's national soccer team member Lisa Dahlkvist did this in Tokyo when it got silver. But Sweden women didn't qualify out of Europe this time, so that may explain why there isn't a demand right now--it was more even women there on the broadcast side than the men back then because the Blaugut women was there. Volleyball has no on-location analysts. No Ljubomir Vranjes in handball or Sean Sjodin over in swimming or Veronica Wagner in gymnastics or Anders Adamson in cycling this time. Roster is far more expansive here in multiple sports than in Tokyo even with the now-added studio analysts/experts like Therese Alshammar, Kim Andersson, Caroline Kluft, Matilda Boson, Karin Lundqvist, Niklas Jarelind, Mustafa Mohammed joining studio hosts and program leaders Jessica Almanas, Jonas Karlsson, and Karin Frick at their Olympic studio in Paris: https://press.warnerbrosdiscovery.se/page/os-paris-2024/ Along with TV2 Denmark's Camilla Martin, Stine Bjerre Mortensen, and Morten Ankerdal being hosts in the main studio by the Eiffel Tower, which will be a fixed point of reference during the transmissions and Christina Schmidth, Thomas Bilde, Ulrik Jönsson, Mejse Egebjerg, Maja Laursen Bjerg, Jacob Qvirin and Nicolai Dvinge serving as TV2 reporters, we apparently got the complete TV2 commentary/expert roster. Some will be on location in Paris like with the popular Danish sports of team handball, badminton, and track and field. Others will be back in Odense. In the cases of basketball and volleyball (both variants each), the commentary teams will only appear in the gold medal finals, but standard basketball will have all Team USA games, which are popular, and the semis with Jacob Prytz and Peter Wang. Almost all are duos--except for gymnastics with Michael Stærke, Mette Hulgaard, and (three days along the way:) Agnete Bjerregaard Nielsen), shooting with Kasper Højstrup, Susanne Meyerhoff (pistol), René Kristiansen (rifle), and Michael Nielsen (skeet); road and track cycling with Jonas Krügermejer Nygaard, Rolf Sørensen, Emil Vinjebo, and Christina Siggaard (women); tennis having Henrik Jensen and others and Tine Scheuer-Larsen/Michael Tauson, golf from Henrik Jensen, Jeppe Huldahl (men's), and Karen Margrethe Juul (women); and equestrian presented by Sofie Munch, Bjarne Nielsen (dressage), Konstantin Deeken Künnemann (jumping), and Jakob Binder-Struck (military): https://omtv2.tv2.dk/presse/pressekit/sportssommer-2024/ More on Cate Campbell's joining Network Nine's Paris 2024 swimming commentary team, still heading to Paris right after her retirement post-Australian Swimming Trials in Brisbane missing out on the Australian Olympic Team, with Ian Thorpe and Gianne Rooney on the panel of experts sitting alongside the station’s pro-commentators, Mat Thompson, Nine’s chief rugby league commentator, and Roz Kelly, host of the network’s Sports Sunday show. This and the countless hours of daytime coverage following the torch around on July 15th and the day of the opening. 1 Quote

Any of you guys had more luck? glad I wasn't the only one thinking about this haha 5 hours ago, FernandoLima said: The Brazilian TV channel CazeTV has posted the following video on their Instagram account on early May: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6wfhSSuHSe/?igsh=aW50djF6bmJld2M1 I don’t know if it’s official, but it looks a lot like an OBS opening sequence. yes, it looks like its using a similar art style used for the Tokyo 2020 opening sequence, plus both share many of the same elements - pictograms being displayed on billboards / screens, and the look of the games being visible throughout the sequence. Both also depict athletes doing sports in the city, and both end with a shot of the ceremony venue (National Stadium for Tokyo, the Seine for Paris) with city landmarks (Tokyo Tower for Tokyo, the Eiffel Tower + Louvre + Arc for Paris) in the background.
