PikyoK Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 Presenting my design for NAIROBI 2036 Nairobi 2036, branded as "Nairobi '36", are the first Summer Olympics and Paralympics to take place in Africa. Nairobi is the beating heart of Kenya and of the 2036 Summer Games. The design of the logo is inspired by symmetrical and geometric patterns found in Kenya and features a mashup of three symbols; a flag, a gold medal, and an athlete. The flag- inspired by Kenyan patterns and colours from world flags, not just Kenya - represents a flag of a nation that an athlete competes under amidst a Kenyan setting. The athlete - inspired by geometric Kenyan patterns - waves its arms in the air to fly the flag or wave to the audience as it strives for excellence. The yellow head and black arms denote the diverse harmony of athletes from all over the world. The gold medal - juxtaposed within the flag - is awarded to athletes who become the champions of the Games. The blue ribbon is given an African style through the use of white geometric triangle patterns that contrast the gold medal and the green, black, and red that are used when celebrating Kenya and Pan-Africanism. 3 Quote

PikyoK Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 & finally... presenting my design for REYKJAVIK 2034 The logo design for Reykjavik 2034, styled as RKV 34, was inspired by Iceland's nickname; "The land of fire and ice", traditional Icelandic staves, a snowflake, and themes of minimalism within Nordic design. The minimalist design comprises of Reykjavik as RKV, a traditional stave known as 'Ægishjálmur' coloured in light blue and gold to represent fire and ice (one could also interpret it as the Olympic Flame in a field of ice). The stave has been styled to look like a snowflake that forms the number 34; a nod to 2034; the year of the Reykjavik Winter Games. Finally, the Olympic and Paralympic emblems have been incorporated into the circular form of the logo through negative space. 3 Quote

JDCLauron Posted December 29, 2022 Report Posted December 29, 2022 Time for my next entry: REYKJAVIK 2034! The design features abstract figures of the gold aurora borealis (rays) and the blue mountains and icefields (pyramid-shaped crystal) to evoke the concept of converging fire (volcanoes, aurora borealis) and ice (glaciers, subarctic climate), elements characterizing Icelandic geography. Following are the applications: 4 Quote

yoshi Posted December 29, 2022 Author Report Posted December 29, 2022 A competition that's nearly over for submissions... this is to say that the deadline is only just over 36 hours away, at 1PM LONDON TIME ON SATURDAY. I will start the vote on the evening of Monday 2 January so we can all recover from the New Year weekend. I won't refuse any entries that come on the Sunday because I'm not a monster. Quote

Glacib Posted December 30, 2022 Report Posted December 30, 2022 Excited for the contest, here are my official submission! The Nairobi logo is inspired by the plaid patterns often displayed on the traditional Maasai Shuka - a known and reognizeable symbol of the Maasai people. The logo represent 4 people coming together, representing both the community-centered Maasai culture and the Olympic values. The red color was chosen as it's the most common Shuka color, and it represents courage, bravery, strength and unity. The X formation is meant to assiciated the logo with the crossed spears and sheild from the Kenyan flag. The look of the games is using 4 different plaid textures that were created especially for the games. The Reykjavik logo is inspired by the Icelandic magical and unique nature - it's an abstract representation of a volcanic eruption in front of the cold nordic sky. The look of the games is continuing this theme, with the branding showcasing the Icelandic landscape in the logo's colors. The pictograms are inspired by old norse runes, to represent Iceland's history and its mystical culture. Good luck to everyone! 3 Quote
Sir Rols Posted December 30, 2022 Report Posted December 30, 2022 It’s been great to see such a response to the comp this year. Eight entries now in each! That’s been the best line-up we’ve had for years - and I wouldn’t discount more late minute entries. Truly a vintage comp. Well done, everyone! Now we just have to hope for some strong voting participation. And the fields are very strong - I have no clue who may or may not rise to triumph, there’s lots of deserving entries. Good luck everyone! Quote

Good luck everyone! Thank you for doing my counting for me, I was going to go through the thread tomorrow to count them all I guess that does mean I can make one announcement now, and that is that whether or not we get more logos in the final day (days technically if you count Sunday), the first round will be a shortlist round, since I don't think anyone wants to go through 7 exhaustive rounds to find a winner! Olympian1010 Posted December 31, 2022 Report Posted December 31, 2022 I won’t be submitting any entries this year. The level is just too high! Sincerely, a tip off the cap to everyone who has shared their amazing designs so far. I can’t wait to vote on them Quote
yoshi Posted December 31, 2022 Author Report Posted December 31, 2022 BONG! Happy New Year to everyone - it is now 1pm on NYE here in the UK, which means that it is now 2023 in Sydney! As our local wombat says, we have an amazing 8 entries, which is more than enough for a proper comp! So, in a tradition that I don't think I've actually been able to uphold since taking the comp over, that means that the comp is now CLOSED for new submissions. The voting will begin, as always, with the winter comp in Iceland - and will start with a shortlist round that will open for votes on Monday evening UK time. As I said above, I'm not a monster, so anything submitted during tomorrow for Reykjavik will also be ok. Until we begin the vote, a Happy New Year once again (Rols, what conditions did you set on shortlist polls?) 1 Quote
