Hi, do we know if there will be any live streaming of the World Games?

I think the Olympic Channel covered part of the 2017 edition, so they might cover 2022 internationally

In the US, it's CBS who has broadcasting rights, although they are only covering highlights every day...

This is from Bulletin #2 released by the local organizing committee. However, I should note that Bulletin was released pre-postponement.

”The BOC and IWGA have engaged world-renowned International Sports Broadcasting (ISB) to provide host broadcasting services for The World Games 2021 Birmingham. The BOC and ISB have a joint meeting in October to discuss details about production hours, sport coverage and overall production planning.

As with The World Games 2017 Wroclaw, a 24/7 Channel will be available for the global distribution of The Games. In addition, international broadcasters will get the chance to pick up specific streams of sports that are popular in their countries. ISB will use up to eight OB vans for the production of the TV signal.

ISB will not only act as the production arm of The World Games 2021; they will take over the international marketing of the media rights too.

In addition, IWGA and ISB plan to continue to work with Olympic Channel to secure distribution of The World Games 2021 to all territories in the world.”

At least you haven't got Birmingham 2022 mixed up with Birmingham 2022!

They're both the same names Birmingham, (Alabama) USA is doing the 2022 World Games while Birmingham, UK is focused on 2022 Commonwealth Games. Both cities with the same name are hosting these two events big time.

The World Games 2022 Expands Digital Coverage with Olympics.com

The International World Games Association (IWGA) and the Birmingham Organizing Committee team up with the Olympic Channel Services (OCS), to stream The World Games 2022 (TWG) at Olympics.com in the USA from 7 – 17 July 2022.

The agreement with Olympic Channel Services (OCS) will see a comprehensive digital offering to stream the live action from The World Games 2022 (TWG) in Birmingham, Alabama on Olympics.com, the sports content hub of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). OCS will provide a 24/7 feed as well as individual feeds of the multi-sports event, the second time it will be streamed on the platform following success in 2017. Fans in the USA will be able to watch the action live on Olympics.com.

...

This digital streaming agreement is in addition to CBS Sports’ wide-ranging coverage in the USA. CBS Sports Network will televise one-hour highlight shows after each day of competition and the CBS Television Network will broadcast two, one-hour specials, with broadcast coverage also streaming live on Paramount+. Fans in the USA will now be able to watch nearly all of the 223 medal decisions over 34 live events.

Confirmation that the Games will be streamed live on the Olympic Channel

The Opening Ceremony will be titled "Unlocking The Magic: Celebrating The Power of The One" and will showcase Birmingham's history and future and feature performances from various artists including Alabama, Nelly, Sara Evans, Sheila E., Tony! Toni! Tone!, and Yolanda Adams.

The Closing Ceremony will be titled "One World-One People: Celebrating Legacy, Achievement & Unity" (i sense they may have gotten inspiration from a particular set of ceremonies earlier this year...) and will feature performances from Lionel Richie, and others (the list so far can be found here), as well as the handover to the TWG 2025 hosts, Chengdu.

Bootsy Collins will serve as Master for Ceremonies for both ceremonies, and will "guide audiences through a musical and theatrical presentation celebrating the rich musical and cultural history of Birmingham, AL."

The official song, "Hope of Alabama" will also be performed at both ceremonies.

And for a particular user in these forums: yes. there will be a choir at some point in the ceremonies.

How about internationally? It only seems it is on Olympics.com in the US.

I think it should also be the Olympic Channel / Olympics.com as well, but I'll get back to you if I see otherwise

Information regarding broadcasting of the World Games with 5 days to go -

US Broadcasting

In the USA, the Organising Committee in Birmingham was able to award the TV rights to CBS. In addition, the multi-sport event with 3,600 athletes from 108 countries can be followed in the host country via the streaming platform Olympic.org.

International Broadcasting

The agreements already concluded by ISB allow, for instance, sports fans in Poland, host country of The World Games 2017, to watch via the channel Polsat, in France via L'Equipe and in Spain via RTVE. ESPN Latin America covers the Games in South America with its programmes for the first time. In the Middle East and North Africa, the 11th edition of The World Games will be shown on Abu Dhabi TV. In Asia, Optimum has acquired broadcast rights for Thailand, TV Tokyo for Japan and Abu Dhabi TV for Vanuatu and Myanmar.

The aim is to surpass the marketing reach of the Games in 2017 when Wrocław, Poland was the host city. At that time, the competitions of The World Games were seen in 115 countries. The reach was 100 million viewers. The Olympic Channel was highly successful in streaming the competitions in all countries that could not be reached by TV broadcast. The IWGA is seeking a similar agreement with the Olympic Channel for the event in Birmingham, Alabama.

There's also a mention about streaming on the IWGA website -

Important announcement: DO NOT CLICK on links on social media for "live coverage" of The World Games. The only official sites are ours (The World Games) and the local organisers (The World Games 2022, @twg2022). Live coverage will be through our website and we will announce more about it shortly.

Final post (damn I really should have gathered all my info and made one post instead of breaking it into three, my bad )

Those in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland can watch the Games on SPORT1

SPORT1 will be right in the middle of The Word Games with extensive live broadcasts on free-TV and simulcast livestream on its digital platforms. A total of more than 100 hours of coverage are planned, with over 10 hours of live sport every day in some cases. At the microphone, well-known SPORT1 protagonists will be in action together with various experts. Sport1 GmbH acquired the corresponding media rights to The World Games 2022 for Germany, Austria and Switzerland from International Sports Broadcasting (ISB).

With only three days to go, this is the latest view of Protective Stadium (site of the Opening Ceremony), taken yesterday:

As we can see, light testing has begun and there are very brief instances of fireworks (although that could be from ordinary people as it's normal to see fireworks in the month and days leading up to 4th of July)

Some behind the scenes (that don't really show much but it's still cool):

And an article about the Opening Ceremony which provides some new info:

https://www.uab.edu/news/arts/item/12953-for-the-world-games-2022-birmingham-puts-on-its-biggest-shows-ever-with-help-from-uab-artists

"The festive musical and theatrical shows will have a 75-piece orchestra with members of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, a 120-member youth choir, a 120-member gospel choir, a 100-member concert choir, auxiliary percussionists, herald trumpets and more, as well as dancers and field pageantry artists. Some of those performers may have up to four costume changes."

"more than 45 new orchestral works for this production"

"four very short films to be broadcast during the opening ceremonies. Shot by Emmy-winning director Mike Edwards, the vignettes are about the potential and power Birmingham has had from the beginning and the promise it holds for the future."

"One work, “Sounds of Birmingham,” cleverly fuses factory and industrial sounds to bridge two important scenes in the theatrical component of the show."

Some of the costumes for the ceremony ^^^, it looks like it could be used for a futuristic segment

It is “not available in my country”

It should be the same stream as the 24/7 stream on the Olympics.com page, which should be available in Australia (unless there's a TV channel with broadcasting rights)
