So, Aragon squablling with Catalonia over bidding power struggles. Aragon want a more equal package, but Catalonia seems to think it is theirs...and let´s mix spanish nationlism in there! And they want to host sliding events in SARAJEVO, for crying out loud!

This bid is dead even before it´s even a thing; even if they try to bribe the IOC into making them the prefered bidder, this mess will be a flat-out killer for this atempt.

Barcelona should try to snipe 2036 from Madrid instead, honestly. Unlike Madrid, they have a athletics track already and could actually make a positive celebration out of the cursed year, in the wake of the People´s Olympiad would-be-centenary (of course, even that might be out of touch however...).

The bid will also rely on a favorable result from the general referendum planned for spring that, according to current plans, will only include communities that would be directly impacted by the Games and not the wider regions.  The referendum would exclude Barcelona and Aragon and other areas that might be affected indirectly through infrastructure build and economic impact.

If the headline host city is not affected directly, then what place is?

A summer bid would need to outperform tha capital. A winter bid does not have that concurrence. I just don't see national political and institutional support for another Barcelona summer games before Madrid have had their shot.

I don't know if Madrid could host the Olympics someday to be the second city in Spain after Barcelona 1992.

Why hasn't Barcelona gone after another Summer Olympics?

Because the Madrilenos -- the Castillians -- feel that next showcase should be theirs, therefore block any renewed Catalan summer bid.  Man, you gotta pick up on these geo-political things.  That's what this site is all about.
