I propose that voting begin at 12am, GamesBids standard time, on August 8.

* Voting will follow the standard IOC procedure also followed in past GamesBids competitions. A thread will be started for each round of voting.

* Any member who had signed up to GamesBids before July 9 this year will be eligible to post their vote, naming one country in a post on the voting thread.

* Each member can only vote once in each voting round.

* Each voting round will last 24 hours.

* At the close of each round, votes will be tallied. If any bid has gained a clear majority of all votes it will be declared the winner.

* If no bid has a clear majority, the bid with the fewest votes will be eliminated and another round will start.

* In the event of two bids tied for lowest number of votes, a tie-breaker vote round will be held.

* This process will continue until a clear majority winner has been reached.

* No campaigning is to take place in the voting threads.

* It should go without saying that there be no cheating. Please feel free to suggest any particular forms of cheating that should be banned (or any other loopholes that need to be closed).

At present, the following bids plans have been submitted:

* Mexico

* England

* Portugal

* Turkey

* Scandinavia

The following have indicated they are planning to bid but their full plans either aren't in yet, or it's unclear if what they have posted is their final bid plans:

* China

* Scotland-Wales

* Argentina

* Australia

* Russia

Could bidders please confirm here that this is correct, and please let us all know if there are any other bids that are planned.

I thought it was that the bids had to be in on Aug. 8, and voting would begin soon after.

Originially the due date for bids was July 31, with voting to begin as soon as they were in. It was put back to August 8 to accomodate requests for extra time. Don't want to leave too much time between the bids coming in and the vote _ that's when people lose interest.

You could always put out a request for some PDF help on the General Topics thread.

Yes, but it was said that there was a deadline on AUg. 8 to hand in bid books, meaning you can hand them in on Aug. 8, not that voting would begin on Aug. 8.

My bid books are the topics themselves. I don't have the time, patience or skill to produce a pdf file of it all. Not when I can put it all just as easily on here. Is this a problem?

Nope, by bid has been accepted and you have seen it. Its just a thread with aaron's outline, a bunch of information and plans and news releases. Its perfectly fine.

Since there is as many as ten bids, I think it is necessary to cut the bottom two for the first two to three rounds. Roltel what do you think?

Well, I was wondering if we wanted to have an initial voting round to bring about a short list. Maybe an intial vote where voters rank all the bids in order, and from that cut it down to a final five.

What do people think?

We'd have to decide quick, though, just over 24 hours till we're supposed to start voting.

Each person has 2 votes, after 24 hours of voting, the results are added up and then the top five move on to the first voting day on the 11th???

What about a compromise? For the first round, everyone votes for their top three in order (first place gets five points, second gets three, third gets two). After that, the short list is made up by the top five bids.
