Sir Rols Posted February 26, 2022 Report Posted February 26, 2022 Quote ‘Stay strong’: Football unites against war in emotional day It was a touching, emotional and at times uplifting day in the Premier League on Saturday, marked by messages of solidarity across the country from players and fans toward those in – and from – Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. Nowhere more so than at Goodison Park, where the football – Manchester City beat Everton 1-0 to move six points clear at the top – felt somewhat insignificant as City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko and Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko, two Ukraine internationals, walked toward each other during the warmups and hugged. Everton usually comes out for games at Goodison to the Z-Cars theme that features an air-raid siren. Not this time, as a mark of respect. At Old Trafford, where Manchester United was held to a 0-0 draw by Watford, players from both teams came together before the start of the match behind a sign showing the word “peace” in several languages. And at Brighton’s Amex Stadium, Matty Cash scored the goal that sent Aston Villa on its way to a 2-0 win and marked it by taking off his jersey, revealing a message to a teammate in the Poland national side who plays his club football in Ukraine. “Tomasz Kedziora + family,” it read, “stay strong my bro.” As we also reported earlier, the Russian owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, handed over stewardship of the Premier League club to trustees of its charitable foundation on Saturday. While Abramovich and Chelsea did not reveal why he was giving the foundation stewardship, several Russian individuals and entities have been put under sanctions by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Sir Rols Posted February 26, 2022 Report Posted February 26, 2022 Good to see they’re moving on SWIFT now Quote Germany and its Western allies have just agreed to cut “selected” Russian banks out of the SWIFT global payment system, in a third sanctions package aimed at halting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Sydney Morning Herald Quote
Sir Rols Posted February 26, 2022 Report Posted February 26, 2022 And at last - two NOCs demanding the obvious sanctions Norway and Denmark NOCs call for ban on Russia and Belarus at international sport events 2 Quote
Sir Rols Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 And here we go. Russia hits back: Quote Koloskov accuses Poland of blackmail and Russia reacts to IOC rebuke with "great disappointment" Honorary UEFA member Vyacheslav Koloskov has accused the Polish Football Association (PZPN) of blackmail over its refusal to play Russia in a FIFA World Cup qualifier, while Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin says an International Olympic Committee (IOC) demand the country be stripped of events is a "great disappointment". Key stakeholders in Russian sport have been reacting to sanctions the country faces following its invasion of Ukraine, and the PZPN's insistence against playing Russia has not gone down well with ex-FIFA vice-president Koloskov. … ITG I really hope the IOC/Bach and Russia honeymoon is truly over Quote
Scotguy II Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 Although he still owns the club Roman Abramovich has handed over control of Chelsea. probably trying to avoid the sanctions - he is a good mate of Supreme Leader Putin Quote
Scotguy II Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 i know this is probably inappropriate but does anyone else think that Ukrainian president Zelensky is hot? 1 2 Quote
Sir Rols Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 (edited) I notice the Inside The Games comments are getting attention from the Russian dezinformatsiya trolls. I remember when GamesBids warranted attention from the Chinese and Russian hacker bot armies (I hope I’m not speaking too soon). 13 minutes ago, Scotguy II said: i know this is probably inappropriate but does anyone else think that Ukrainian president Zelensky is hot? Not my type physically, but he’s done a shining job as a symbol for resistance. Staying put in the siege of Kiev is really proving inspirational, though I wish he’d get out while he still can - maybe move the resistance capital to Lviv. Don’t fancy his chances if he gets captured. Edited February 27, 2022 by Sir Rols 1 Quote

The UN security council vote on the issue was 11 for, 3 abstentions and 1 veto. The 3 abstentions being China, India and UAE. India having historically strong ties with the Soviet Union. China being like, we support Russia, but maybe not on this. The UAE is weird. They are certainly apart of the alliance against Iran/Syria and those are supported by Russia. So how much can the 40+ countries do? Especially if regional allies like the ones in the Gulf aren't lining up behind and if India (who has been courting stronger US ties because of China) takes a seat? Russia has their meddling hands all over Africa so that is a problem too. And then you have the tinpot dictators in Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua that will stop a unified position from OAS. I've noticed on Facebook a twitter there is a very high number of Nigerians spouting weird and fanatical support for Russia. Not sure if its a direct political influence or more Russia simply engaging former scammers to flood the internet with bizarre propaganda . Quote

I haven’t noticed much on Facebook, but then again it probably doesn’t match my algorithm on there. I’m not surprised by Inside The Games - they were already public enemy number one for the Russian trolls for breaking the Valieva story 1 Quote

I mean its a complicated thing for the UK as a whole because many of the oligarchs have used their money for influence and power in London. Its not called Londongrad for any reason. 1 Quote

StefanMUC Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 Germany today announced the most dramatic u-turn in our foreign and defense policy since WW2. Remember, we have now a centre-left coalition with at least 1.5 parties being normally very pacifist. But even they have had enough now. It is very scary to see a new spiral of armament and militarisation, but that‘s what Putin is forcing us to do. 1 Quote

He has his moments where he is handsome, especially now when he's just wearing t-shirts inside & has some scruff going on these days. I'm always a sucker for a cute man in a beard! And yeah, gotta love his valor. Love his answer when the U.S. urged him to get out - "what we need is ammunition. Not a ride". All the more power to him & his forces. God bless. Quote

Do bullies & tyrants ever understand that, though? I always wanted to give Poo-tin, the benefit of the doubt. That he just wanted to stand his ground, & blow off some steam & play grand-standing every so often, so others can see that he means business if pushed. But now, he's just a downright monster. Same with Xixi & his clan. I'm done trying to see these things from a diplomatic POV from their part, since they don't even know what that word means ITFP. As the old saying goes; "full me once, shame on you. Full me twice, shame on me". Quote
