I think it's time for the IOC to call a spade a spade.  With Russia waiting until the WOGs were over, big bully Russia has attacked the weaker Ukraine for no credible reason.  So, leading up to Paris 2024, Russia -- as did the aggressor nations of both World Wars I and II -- who were NOT invited in both SOGs and WOGs immediately following the cessation of hostilities,

This is almost like 1939 Nazi Germany again.

Putin and Russia are the Nazis of our time.  Ban them for the foreseeable future, at least til 2040

And don’t forget about Xi. He’ll be watching all this closely.

If we don’t stand up to Putin now, Taiwan’s future looks all the bleaker. If not all east Asia’s.

absolutely.......  If I was a Chinese general I would be pounding the desk to attack Taiwan now.

The parallels seem eerily similar to before, don't they; Germany in Europe & Japan in East Asia were the aggressors. This time, it's Russia & China.

We could stand up to one of them, but both at the same time, would be very, very worrisome.

It‘s absolutely shocking and outrageous what Putin is doing.

There are really no words for that and consequences are more than overdue. Including for sports competitions.

Greetings from Europe.

St Petersburg will likely lose the 2022 Champions League Final

Russia should be banned from entering the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest

Russias bid for EXPO should be ended

Being half Russian and having family living there, this is not what most ordinary Russians want. They do not want war and have a hatred for Putin, however they are pretty powerless to stop his and the governments plans

Ordinary Russians for sure care little about Donbass, they care about food and a future for their children.

Maybe once many of those children will come home in plastic bags with a military medal on top, there‘ll finally be a real turn against the regime. It‘s cynical, but I really don‘t see a way to stop Putin other than from within.

Watch your social media accounts. I'm seeing reports on twitter that Russian hackers are taking over social media accounts and profiles. Good thing I'm not into any cryptocurrencies.

IOC strongly condemns the breach of the Olympic Truce

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) strongly condemns the breach of the Olympic Truce by the Russian government. The respective UN resolution was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 2 December 2021 by consensus of all 193 UN Member States. The Olympic Truce began seven days before the start of the Olympic Games, on 4 February 2022, and ends seven days after the closing of the Paralympic Games.

Today, IOC President Thomas Bach reiterates his call for peace, which he expressed in his speeches at the Opening Ceremony and the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games.

At the Opening Ceremony, he called on the political authorities: “Observe your commitment to this Olympic Truce. Give peace a chance.”

At the Closing Ceremony, he asked the political leaders “to be inspired” by the “example of solidarity and peace” set by the Olympic athletes.

Following recent events, the IOC is deeply concerned about the safety of the Olympic Community in Ukraine. It has established a task force to closely monitor the situation and to coordinate humanitarian assistance to members of the Olympic Community in Ukraine where possible.

IPC calls for peace ahead of Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has joined the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in condemning Russia’s breach of the Olympic Truce ahead of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

The Olympic Truce was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 2 December 2021 by consensus of all 193 Member States and is co-sponsored by 173 Member States, including Russia. The Olympic Truce began before the start of the Olympic Winter Games on 4 February 2022 and ends on 20 March, seven days after the closing of the Paralympic Winter Games. The practice of world leaders adopting the Olympic Truce has a long history. The current resolution “calls upon all Member States to co-operate with the IOC and IPC in their efforts to use sport as a tool to promote peace, dialogue and reconciliation in areas of conflict during and beyond the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Andrew Parsons, IPC President, said: “This is a truly horrible situation, and we are greatly concerned about our National Paralympic Committee and Para athletes from Ukraine.

“Our top priority right now is the safety and well-being of the Ukrainian delegation, with whom we are in regular dialogue. Earlier today I spoke with Valeriy Sushkevych, the President of the Ukrainian Paralympic Committee, who informed me that his Para athletes wish to compete in Beijing, however getting the team to Beijing is going to be a mammoth challenge.

“One key aspect of the Truce is ensuring the safe passage, access and participation of athletes, officials, and all accredited persons taking part in the Games. We need to find a solution for this as soon as possible so that the Ukrainian delegation can travel to and from the Games safely. World leaders must observe their commitment to the Olympic Truce, in particular those Member States who are a co-sponsor of the resolution.

“We have seen at the Olympic Winter Games, and we will see again at the Paralympic Winter Games, athletes from different nations competing with each other, not against each other. Sport is a tremendous platform to showcase to the world what can be achieved when people of all nations come together in peace and solidarity. The world must be a place for sharing, not for dividing. I hope and pray world leaders take heed of this."

100%

They need to be frozen out and isolated. Apartheid South Africa is the precedent here.
