Dear GB Moderator

You have indicated in the last line of the post these words:

         “Your attention is appreciated”

The attention of GB Moderator is in turn kindly requested and to concerns and issues raised from Gamesbids members as follows in this thread.

The reason for this post in this thread is that the attention of GB Moderator, yourself, has not been acknowledged or forthcoming, as yet, from concerns and issues raised by Gamesbids members.

I have tried contacting you by Private Message and by using the “Contact Us” function and there has been no response or an acknowledgement.

Your attention and response to issues raised by Gamesbids members in the following links be most appreciated:

Opening up Gamesbids Premium Membership

This thread began with a focus on opening up premium membership, but it soon became clear that issues being raised by Gamesbids members were about opening up Gamesbids.com to most of your members who are regular members, rather than just the very few minority which are your premium members.

Editing posts - Please consider allowing regular members to also edit their own posts.  This very basic function is only available to a minority being premium members, yet premium membership is closed to regular members.

Polls - Please consider allowing regular members to create their own polls.  This function is only available to a minority being premium members, yet premium membership is closed to regular members.

Mailbox expansion - For all members, please consider increasing the number of emails allowed in each inbox which is 3.

Reactions to posts - For all members, please consider increasing the daily number of reactions to posts from 3.

Thankyou.

Your attention, consideration and response is requested to these issues raised.

On behalf of Gamesbids regular and premium members.

This is what a couple of similar Olympic blogs to Gamesbids.com are doing:

Skyscrapercity.com:

  • Skyscrapercity.com has premium membership open to anyone who wishes to pay the subscription.
  • those who don’t want premium membership can still edit their posts.

TotallyOlympics.com

  • premium membership was removed in 2017 and the site is open to everyone
  • The totallyolympics host host posted this in 2017:  “I was able to reduce the costs of hosting the website and I am able to pay most of them with the money I receive from the ads (which is very few, but still enough to cover most of the costs), the Premium Membership and the donations are not necessary anymore and Totallympics is free for everyone again.”
  • members can freely edit their posts

I have split this into a separate thread.  The previous thread referred specifically to the GamesBids.com main site and not the forums.

GamesBids.com Forums cannot be compared directly to Skyscrapercity.com or Totallympics.com because one is a company "With over 800 forum communities, VerticalScope provides the technology that powers the community. Our team of volunteer moderators and administrators watch over the content, and actively patrol for spam, user behavioural issues, and make sure threads are in the right categories" and the other is a site more dedicated and integrated with the forums.

Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to extensively moderate a full-featured forum and have disabled some features for very specific security and liability reasons. As some of you may know/remember, there have been times in the past where the forums were subpoenaed for information in civil and criminal lawsuits - and restrictions on some of the services you mentioned help reduce the risk and costs in the future (though it may not seem obvious).

For over 20 years we have offered this service, mostly without charge.  This forum is not for profit but as a service to support users of our main website.

We will consider a couple of your minor suggestions, but we can't consider them all.  Thanks for your interest and continued support.
