I must say that that bothers me a bit as well. I mean, it is probably very "parisienne" to have a red carpet like for some fashion show, but it is still an Olympic opening ceremony. There shouldn't be too much of a focus on the celebrities, but on the athletes and the performances during the ceremony. But I guess they saw that as an opportunity to fill some air time ahead of the ceremony.

When my city finally figures out what they'll do about the main Olympic stadium I might come post, until then i'm too ashamed at how much of a shambles it has been! But i'm excited and never thought i'd see Brisbane host in my lifetime. Still surreal. And a bit of an odd group. Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Rio, London, Beijing.... Brisbane.

No, also German TV channel ARD showed the red carpet during its pre-ceremony broadcast and interviewed Lindsey Vonn live from the red carpet.

Makes sense but i'd rather it be about sport and not these celebrities. I can handle them being there if they're singing like Celine Dion and Lady Gaga but I don't care to see Anna Wintour or some of these other actors/actresses.
