Shiruba98 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 All in all, I thought it was an amazing show, even if the execution was a bit prolonged and sloppy. I do hope Thomas Jolly can make a director's cut or something to cut out any prolonged parts to make it less longer. Also tbh I nearly cried when the balloon cauldron was lit to the sounds of Edith Piaf, it and Celine were the saving grace of this rather long and tedious ceremony. I do admire the French for being bold and ambitious but the ambition fizzled out thanks to the rather unfortunate weather. I'm just glad the closing ceremony's in a stadium at least, but well done France for being ambitious and bending the rules even if it didn't go as exactly as you wanted. For this ceremony, I'll give about 7.5/10. Quote
Olympian2004 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Just now, Brekkie Boy said: Yes that was very poor and having no rehearsal ckearly didn't help, though I think the final torchbearers usually don't form part of that anyhow. I remember that at least one previous edition of the Games (I believe it was Torino 2006) issued a "last minute press release" to all reporting media with the names of the final torch bearers shortly before the cauldron was lit. I think that is the best way to do it. They should spare commentators the embarrassment of not being able to name the final torchbearers in the most iconic moment of every Olympic opening ceremony. temporarychemical Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 I thought they'd use drones like they did in run-up events. And why were there no fireworks?! Quote

People knew what to expect when they bought these tickets. Fair enough on the river but if you were in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower it would have been reasonable to assume the main area would feature the main moment of the ceremony. It all depends on the cost though - at €10 you hot what you paid for. At €500+ you've been ripped off. Quote

And thank goodness closing ceremony will be in a stadium. I wonder if the balloon cauldron will be towed somehow to the Stade de France, where it will then descend and then be popped and doused. Anyway, at €2600, we're talking about people who are probably very rich anyway and who don't care about throwing money out the window. I don't think there are many middle class people in the Trocadéro audience who would have saved up for years for that. Quote
FYI Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 4 minutes ago, Brekkie Boy said: You paid for tickets to an Opening Ceremony and got a couple of speeches, a song from Celine Dion and a migrane from strobe lighting. Will say as a TV viewer I'm glad for the furst time in ages the main cauldron was lit in it's final position but for the audience and athletes to sit out in the rain for 3.5 hours with no ceremony to watch to then not even see the lighting of the flame I think they'd have every reason to feel robbed and have been mis-sold their tickets. A song she apparently got payed TWO MILLION DOLLARS for (plus her expenses)!! So they can't give people refunds, cause they still gotta pay for her exorbitant fee!! lol Quote
MisterSG1 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 So let’s recap, with these present day Olympics. This isn’t even a real flame, because real flames are bad for the environment? How can you have an Olympics without a flame. This is also probably true as to why there weren’t fireworks either, bad for the environment they’ll say. Charles Coste should have lit that cauldron somehow, as he’s probably the only guy alive in Paris who was alive when the Olympics were last held there. I’ll leave my opinions there. Quote

There were tons of fireworks in the run-up events. At least the ones that Groupe F designed. Quote
FYI Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 How much did Lady Gaga get, & the performers, who I'd say were the real stars of the show. 1 Quote

And i guess the rider with the olympic rings cape was also that. Quote

Shiruba98 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 https://press.paris2024.org/news/the-cauldron-of-the-olympic-games-paris-2024-takes-to-the-skies-to-shine-over-the-capital-3dfe1-7578a.html So interesting thing about the cauldron, it's powered by water and electricity and it incorporates 40 LED spotlights to illuminate the cloud created by 200 high-pressure misting nozzles. EDF were the ones who are powering the cauldron with this unique, clever and safe concept for both the environment and the people of Paris, as if it was actual fire, it'd be quite a disaster. As for the cauldron being on display, it'll be on the ground in the daytime for people to come and see it. Then at night, it'll float gracefully back up to the Parisian skies for everyone to see! True, but the paperwork to remove the word "Dominion" from the formal name of the nation has never been completed, and King Charles III, who visits Canada about once every three years, is still the head of state. They ban someone for rightfully telling this person to **** off, but not the person who literally told them to kill themselves. I've always felt this forum and moderation board has been way too tolerant of this personage but there shouldn't be room for more doubts that there is an obvious bias. Now watch me getting banned for dropping truth bombs. Quote
