emre Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 What if someone just shoot the ballon with a rifle? :S Quote
savas Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 As I thought … Celine will be the highlight … she is incredible amazing 🥰 Quote

FYI Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 So is the balloon going to stay up in the air like that (& move around or stay stationary) for the duration of the Games? Quote

kevzz Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Celine is the only saving grace. I’m not entirely convinced by the balloon cauldron. It’s the whole dragged out journey to the cauldron that kills the moment for me. Quote

But as a whole it's been incoherent and hasn't really clicked. Ambition overriding reality. Sadly I think in our TikTok world, that may be all they care about - the montage and the instagramable moments Quote
olympian.br Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 The last few minutes were nothing short of EPIC! The whole ceremony is still a big NO though. 1 Quote
Brekkie Boy Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Nice to see some ambition in the cauldron again after downsizing them in recent years (Beijing was literally just a torch in a holder). Love the idea of the balloon if not completely sold on the execution. Overall though the worst opening cceremony in living memory. Considering the idea of switching it to the city was to enable more locals to see it I feel they pretty much saw nothing - either a few boats passing by or a couple of speeches at the Trocedero with the main element behind closed doirs. Red Centaur Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 The lighting of the cauldron and the finale was absolutely spectacular. Congratulations to Paris Quote

yoshi Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Fair play, that is one cool cauldron. Shame it had to be so far away from the main ceremony, that bit dragged. And some people in the Tuileries would've made a big difference, that cauldron sequence felt really dead until the lighting. Quote

SkiFreak Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 First half with the Parade of Nations was too disjointed and a logistics and tech nightmare. The finale was alright. Definitely a different concept. First half could have been executed way better. 1 Quote

baron-pierreIV Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Well, they didn't show the crowds & VIPs at Troc dispersing. That's one way to do it. My verdict: a B+ But there shouldn'thave been TOO LONG a gap between the Protocol parts and the Lighting. Since they are going to bring it down tonight anyway -- they should've staged it at the Champs du Mars. 1 Quote
Olympic Fan Darcy Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 It's always good to finish strong and Celine delivered but the entire thing was just such a let down. Even the lead up to the lighting of the cauldron was pure chaos. Nadia Comaneci nearly fell in the river, the boat clearly took too long and we just had a random guy dancing. Then we had a bunch of athletes passing eachother the torch all confused with what to do on the walk down. Quote
JMarkSnow2012 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Rain absolutely streaming down the windows of the BBC studio ... Quote
