Sir Rols Posted July 24 Author Report Posted July 24 (edited) Introducing a new game for the OC Live Chat! Paris Live Chat Bingo! The rules are simple. Every time one of these happens and gets crossed out, have a shot of Absinthe… Now, there’s 25 squares (one has already been achieved and crossed out, thanks AustralianFan, so 24 to go). We may not be able to get all of them (who knows? Baron may end up absolutely LOVING the ceremony, or Macron might be cheered to the rafters), so let’s say the first to cross off 16 (including the one already achieved) and then manages to post “Bingo!” In the thread chat, is the winner! Good luck, and may the drunkest participant win! Edited July 24 by Sir Rols 3 Quote

Hmmm. Maybe we can say Refugee Team can also count for that. I was gonna put in “Team Booed” and the Israeli flag, but thought that might have been a bit too sensitive to broach. * EDIT: changed and sorted * Edited July 24 by Sir Rols Quote

AustralianFan Posted July 25 Report Posted July 25 We’ll be watching the Opening Ceremony from a Live Site in Athens, Greece, on the grand lawn of the Grand Lawn of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre. If you happen to be in Athens then or you know anyone who is, see you there! Quote
sebastien1214 Posted July 25 Report Posted July 25 Only 24 hours left. After years of waiting... Quote

But this ceremony is also the start of the Games that we have been waiting for decades in Paris. And the wait was long to see the Games again at home (the other house with the Greek cradle). 1 Quote
Sir Rols Posted July 26 Author Report Posted July 26 I waited till now - zero minus 1q6 hours - to post a weather update. At this stage it‘s looking reasonable Quote
Bear Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 so unfortunately my body thinks it's Tokyo 2020 and not Paris 2024 that's opening tomorrow because I just tested positive for COVID (for the very first time too!). hopefully this shall not derail my plans to watch the ceremony live 🙂 1 Quote

Put the TV in the bedroom. thank you 🙂 ----- I genuinely cannot believe the ceremony is less than 12 hours away, 13 September 2017 feels like it was just yesterday. These are the first Olympics that I followed from the early candidature process all the way to the hosting of the Games, and man did those years go by quick. Quote
sebastien1214 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Maybe we should switch to this thread, less than 12 hours before the ceremony begins. Ironically funny thing: I can't even connect to the Météo-France website anymore, as if it had crashed because there were too many connections on the website. To give you an idea of the tension... Quote
FYI Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Reminds me of this site in the past, when it would crash cause it would get overwhelmed with too many users on OC day of past Olympics (though over the years, that has been improved here). lol Quote
sebastien1214 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Arome model update: we go from 36.4mm on the previous forecast to 16.4mm. Let's pray... https://www.meteolab.fr/modele/city-forecast.html?a=750560&b=FR&c=1&d=&e=&f=0&g=1&h= 1 Quote
rio2016man Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 It should be absolutely spectacular!! Good luck to all of those taking part Quote

Sir Rols Posted July 26 Author Report Posted July 26 Whoa! So much happening. Just gotta cross fingers about the weather, or pray to the weather gods. TGV news is f*cked. Just hope that’s all. otherwise, I really should go try to catch a few hours sleep before waking at 3am for the big show. Catch you all then (I’ll be setting two alarms to make sure) Quote

kevzz Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Looks like it's a mathematical certainty there will be heavy rainfall during the ceremony https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/sports/content/914868/weather-forecaster-sees-rain-disaster-for-paris-olympics-opening-ceremony/story/ Quote
AustralianFan Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Thank goodness, the Opening Ceremony to go ahead, despite the multiple attacks on the French railways. I feel for all those whose travel plans to the Games and the Opening Ceremony in a few hours were stopped today. AustralianFan Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Trocadero Looks like multiple screens for those in the audience there to see the athletes parade and other entertainment events happening around the Seine as the big show moves to the Trocadero. Quote
