The production design is also very hit’n’miss. Things like the sub speakers during Gaga’s section should have been built into the stage. During that fashion show, I could see gaffer tape and cable ties holding the lighting fixtures. This is low quality presentation. I expect more from an Olympic opening ceremony. Great moments so far, design wise, was that French cloud explosion at the start, the headless women and boats cut out bit with the red steamers section, and those female artwork heads in the water… though they could have been done better

Hi All, it's been a long time, I am holding judgment, but like many of you, I have been skeptical of the format out of the stadium. That said, I never expected the production value to be so mixed, inconsistent and strange, there is really no focus and the flow is very odd, it is really like a series of creative vignettes and ideas that are missing good transitions.

On paper it sounds good to blend the athletes parade into the whole running time, but i am really not sure it works - as others have said it makes it feel longer.

Above all I think the lack of formal MCs or annnouncements (and lower third graphics for performers) or fanfares is making it feel alot less professional, pompy and specular than it should.

Performing the national anthem in a rooftop seems awesome and is a great storyboard concept - but have we really got to a point where we are not even pretending that we are not miming and not even pretending to have mics. (maybe this is more fair and mature).

I never thought a stadium was an intimate venue, until now, and I missing one 80,000+ crowd that can see everything happening at once and react together - perhaps that is why it feels flat? (as objectively many elements are great

Also way too many pre-recorded scenes. Though this slope started many ceremonies ago.

My opinion is far from qualified of course, and I genuinely appreciate the pushing of the envelope but I am verybconflivted.

Shame about the weather for the creative and production team (visually seems to get better as it gets darker) though I think it is runsheet, impossible scale and execution incosistency - not rain that is holding it back so far.

Apparently the French are loving it, actually, according to Twitter

Maybe some of the scenes "on the Seine" may not look like much on TV (especially with rain) but I bet the ATMOSPHERE in person right there still must be OTT!!!

So that's it? I thought there were gonna be more segments but the whole Drag parade has been the longest.

I really hope they're doing more things at Trocadero.

Think of the money Paris didn't make by having sold tickets to the Opening Ceremony and instead opting for this free event and then this happens instead.

Cheapest tickets for the OC usually like $2000 USD, State De France fits 80,000....

Hundreds of millions lost.

God every camera angle is covered in rain, wipe your screens, I can't see anything.

...and this is getting worse by the minute... absolutely terrible! I expected the highest standard of aesthetics from the French, and instead, I'm getting a grotesque, cheap parade. Hilarious.
Only Celine can lift my spirits now… 😅
