kevzz
Seems like it will definitely be a woman who light the cauldron. It’s a very woman themed ceremony so far

sebastien1214
I would just like to take this moment to go back to the passage of the Algerians. On October 17, 1961, a hundred Algerians who were demonstrating in Paris to support the struggle for Algerian independence were massacred and thrown into the Seine. It is a black stain on our recent history that we do not address much in France, one of our pages of post-WW2 shame. And understand that seeing Algeria parade on the Seine has a heavy symbolic weight. Hence the Algerians who threw flowers into the Seine to pay tribute to them.

Olympian2004
Sorry, but now it feels really like a hodge-podge of many different ideas and concepts. A little bit of advertising for Louis Vuitton and the Minions, a little bit of French history, a little bit of culture and then, like an afterthought, the reminder that the athletes are still parading down the Seine. And suddenly the Marseillaise. The staging with the singer standing on top of the Grand Palais is great, but due to the rain and the timing, I was somehow not prepared for it. This could have been staged in amuch more emotional way, especially bearing in mind how proud the French are of their country. And note that they are re-using the arrangement of the Marseillaise used at the Toyko 2020 closing ceremony.
olympian.br
I like some of the ideas tbh, but the execution is not that good and the camera work is just terrible, TERRIBLE!

Maybe because Illumination is too global and doesn't feel too french. In a country with so many good studios/animators, this feel like a waste. Brekkie Boy
Those in the stands at the Eiffel Tower must be even more bored than us and checking the T&Cs to see how they get a refund.

Faster
The Minions section actually made me cry. My Mom and I watched every Despicable Me/Minions movie and she loved them. Lost her last year. And she was the reason I watched the Olympics. I remember watching Donovan Bailey win with her and the men's 4x100m in Atlanta. Figure skating in Nagano.

savas
This OC has been incredibly bad up until now. Everything looks like a cheap local parade. I'm shocked by the lack of inspiration and emotion. Oh my goodness. I thought this concept would never work, but this is even worse ... jesus... can’t believe how bad this is 1
kevzz
This camera work and control room decision is completely unforgivable. At the climax of their national anthem. I have no words.

FYI
Well, the rain isn't particularly behaving, but at least the Seine is (which some were freaking out about even a few weeks ago).

olympian.br
If this concept doesn't work in a gorgeous city like Paris, let's all agree to have the next OC's inside stadiums right?
