I'm surprised how many athletes are still parading into the stadium. They said earlier on German TV channel ARD that athletes have to leave China within 48 hours after their final events, hence they didn't expect many participants in the closing ceremony.

I think it says everything about how underwhelming the Olympic Cauldron is this year when small children are carrying lanterns bigger than the Olympic flame.    The environmental argument really doesn't wash when they seem to have lit up every building within a 5km radius.

Yes- the Australian team looks huge and we only sent 45....I imagine the Australian barista will be marchng again and apparently there are a few officials.

Very true... And let's not forget the energy wasted for all that artificial snow just in order to create some sort of "winter landscape" around the venues - before the actual snow set in

It's so many athletes that the "You have to leave 48 hours after your final event" can't really apply here... There are also far too many medal winners on the infield for that (we had only 13 medal events within the last 48 hours), unless they bought a cheap Chinese copy just in order to pretend

There’s something hilarious seeing Russia, Ukraine, China all there on the stadium floor like Russia isn’t on the verge of invading the Ukraine and causing chaos. It’s just so beautiful and random.

I must say as well that the Ode to Joy is some great music especially for the closing ceremony parade. Even if I still think that Beethoven is currently twirling in his grave because they are pretending to be a harmony-loving regime with his music...

What did I miss on 7? I saw the skating stuff and then the cut to the opening ceremony after the panda fell but what’s this about commonwealth games?

It is rather spooky and macabre, if you ask me. A few days from now, we might not be in the mood to laugh about it anymore.
