TorchbearerSydney Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 THe snowflake is doing the pulsing effct it should have done when the flame was lit...I suspect there was a a mafunction at the opening.... 1 Quote
Olympian2004 Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 And the singing of the national anthem is just as lifeless as the atmosphere at these Games... Beijing is very consistent, I must say. Quote
JMarkSnow2012 Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 Is that the Coke "Holidays Are Coming" theme? Quote
Olympian2004 Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 And now they have a knot displaying how connected China feels to the rest of the world... Yes, that is true economically, but politically, China is trying to build up a wall between themselves and the rest again. I wonder who in this world shall buy that narrative... Quote
Olympian2004 Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 I'm surprised how many athletes are still parading into the stadium. They said earlier on German TV channel ARD that athletes have to leave China within 48 hours after their final events, hence they didn't expect many participants in the closing ceremony. Quote
Olympian2004 Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 Heck, did everyone in Slovenia win a bronze medal? Quote
yoshi Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 I know it's for Covid, but it's a shame the countries must be separated. Goes against the point of this... Quote
Brekkie Boy Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 I think it says everything about how underwhelming the Olympic Cauldron is this year when small children are carrying lanterns bigger than the Olympic flame. The environmental argument really doesn't wash when they seem to have lit up every building within a 5km radius. 1 Quote

TorchbearerSydney Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 Yes- the Australian team looks huge and we only sent 45....I imagine the Australian barista will be marchng again and apparently there are a few officials. Quote
munichfan Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 Not that they had been tested every single day for weeks Quote
JMarkSnow2012 Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 What's with the Team GB quarter-flags? Quote

And let's not forget the energy wasted for all that artificial snow just in order to create some sort of "winter landscape" around the venues - before the actual snow set in Quote

Olympian2004 Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 It's so many athletes that the "You have to leave 48 hours after your final event" can't really apply here... There are also far too many medal winners on the infield for that (we had only 13 medal events within the last 48 hours), unless they bought a cheap Chinese copy just in order to pretend 1 Quote
yoshi Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 I do find it a bit sad that Zhang doesn't seem to think China has any music of its own 2 Quote

TorchbearerSydney Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 I wish they used Chinese music, but is a great version of Beethoven though! Quote
Olympic Fan Darcy Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 There’s something hilarious seeing Russia, Ukraine, China all there on the stadium floor like Russia isn’t on the verge of invading the Ukraine and causing chaos. It’s just so beautiful and random. Quote
Olympian2004 Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 I must say as well that the Ode to Joy is some great music especially for the closing ceremony parade. Even if I still think that Beethoven is currently twirling in his grave because they are pretending to be a harmony-loving regime with his music... 1 Quote
