baron-pierreIV Posted February 13, 2022 Report Posted February 13, 2022 (edited) Will Kamilla be the skates that "launched a thousand missiles?" Will Vlady use a ban on her as an excuse to invade Ukraine?? P.S. Sorry just came onto this now. Have purposely stayed away from GB for personal reasons. AustralianFan Posted February 13, 2022 Report Posted February 13, 2022 8.30pm tonight Beijing time (Sun) is when CAS begins hearing the triple whammy appeal. WADA + IOC + ISU vs RUSADA The appeal is against RUSADA for lifting the ban on Valeiva for taking a banned substance. Quote
AustralianFan Posted February 13, 2022 Report Posted February 13, 2022 … and of course, there is this awful effect of when you break a story, you’re open to this abuse and death threats that the Inside The Games journalists (who broke the story) and others are currently from Russian trolls and abusers. The irreperable harm has been done to her and figure skating as a whole already before. It‘s basically outrageous. Quote

So tomorrow will be the sequel to Tonya in Lillehammer Just that this time, it will end with a gold medal. Protecting athletes‘ rights (as surely CAS argues here) also means taking them out of competition to prevent them from harm. They could have suspended her for the fact that she failed a drug test and only have given her a symbolic ban for a short period, aiming at long bans for her entourage instead. Now Russia (which cares little for athlete wellbeing obviously) gets one ir even two golds for such despicable behaviour. It is absolutely disgusting and basically kills off any serious fight against doping - and child abuse in sports. CAS and the IOC (which was very lukewarm in this affair, to say the least) clearly are in Putin‘s hands, as has never been shown so evidently. Quote

Rob2012 Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 (edited) WADA is arguing CAS got it wrong and in these instances there are no exceptions for minors... "WADA's appeal to CAS in this case ... was based on WADA's position that the decision by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Disciplinary Committee to lift the mandatory provisional suspension on the athlete was not in line with the terms of the World Anti-Doping Code. "WADA is disappointed by today's ruling of the CAS Ad Hoc Division. "While WADA has not received the reasoned award, it appears that the CAS panel decided not to apply the terms of the Code, which does not allow for specific exceptions to be made in relation to mandatory provisional suspensions for 'protected persons', including minors." https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/olympics-reactions-russian-figure-skater-valieva-cleared-compete-after-cas-2022-02-14/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=SSocia Edited February 14, 2022 by Rob. StefanMUC Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 WADA is right there, but they are also part of the puzzle in which Russia could allow themselves to get away with almost anything after Sochi. That "ban" until the end of this year is a complete farce and everyone knows it. They're laughing day and night at the Kremlin. Quote
