Sir Rols Posted February 6, 2022 Report Posted February 6, 2022 (edited) Well, nice news to wake up to - Jakara Anthony wins Australia’s first gold of the games (and first winter gold since 2010) in the moguls. Edited February 6, 2022 by Sir Rols 1 Quote

munichfan Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 Weird stuff happening at the ski jumping mixed team event with some jumpers from all major nations except Slovenia disqualified. Might end up with a Canadian medal in ski jumping. Quote
StefanMUC Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 Could only watch part of it, but it was outrageous. It can always happen that someone gets DQed, but four of the five strongest teams all at once? Plus a clean 20.0 by all judges for a Chinese who started jumping three years ago…nothing to see there, I guess. Quote

krow Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 if you're not living in america you perhaps don't realize how much muscle NBC has put into mikaela shiffrin, who in fairness seemed like a sure thing. well, she's 0 for 2 and they've had a camera trained on her crying in the snow for about five minutes. i blame the terrible fake ice-snow but still, this girl is sitting in the snow having a mental breakdown. classic olympic moment. i give her a minor medal for DRAMA. the gold of course goes to tess ledeux yesterday who cried so hard at getting silver she made eileen gu — the literal winner — pause her celebrations and console her for getting second place in the olympic games. Shiffrin praised the snow. Quote “I was attacking and just a small mistiming of when I set my edges and just slipped out,” Shiffrin said on the live NBC broadcast. “It’s amazing surface, it’s just amazing conditions, but you don’t have any room for some small errors or anything like that.“ She just choked. iceman530 Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 The snow looks good. I think the "wind" is probably the most valid concern. That can throw anyone off their game, but you know what? You're the best of the best, you have to be able to handle these conditions. Its the equivalent of Manchester United losing and blaming the pitch. Not a good look. I assure its not the first time theyve been this cold or have had to ride in windy conditions. Quote
Alexjc Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Nico Porteous scored New Zealand's...or should I say, Wanaka's... last medal at these otherwise forgettable games... Gold in the half Pipe final. Final total Gold 2...Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, Nico Porteous. Silver 1...Zoi Sadowski-Synnott. Winter sports just not a thing in NZ...More just for fun. Kind of sad really as we once could boast a speed skating team and anything going down a frozen flume. Our downhill skiers just couldn't cut it in the unusual Beijing snow conditions. Oh well...roll on 2026... Quote
StefanMUC Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Must be terrible to only win three medals in one Olympics when in the 22 Olympics before, you won a combined total of…three…already. 3 Quote

Cheers to all the kiwi GBids members Once again only made the 6pm news and some mentions on the all day sports radio shows. The Black Caps demolishing the Proteas in the cricket test getting more coverage. The country is just too distracted by when the restrictions will and and the huge protest on parliament grounds that's now in for the long haul. Lets just hope the two golds can spark a little more inspiration for alpine sports here in NZ. Quote
