munichfan
Oh, I'm sure Winnie Pooh shut down this site for his fellow countrymen years ago. The totalitarian handling of anything that happens within their borders is really no surprise here. The Covid-restrictions have given them the power to effectively silence international media and the participating athletes, though. For journalists, the bubble will feel more like a straitjacket. And for athletes, their best bed is to just say nothing at all until they are back on home soil. Negative comments will get them into serious trouble, while any even slightly positive commentary will be and already is heavily abused by party propaganda.
Sir Rols
I remember in 2008 we did make it through, though posters in China had to be careful with certain words, for example, typing Tee Bet instead of Tibet. But I’m sure the Firewall is much tighter now

Olympic Flag, Anthem and Oaths is usually around the speeches protocol. So probably another 15 minutes added to that. This has me thinking, what if the Pre-Show that's being talked about IS the artistic portion?

Ikarus360
Taiwan backpedaled on their decision to boycott the Opening Ceremonies. https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20220201-taiwan-delegation-to-attend-beijing-olympics-ceremonies-as-required The reason? The IOC apparently threatened them with punitive actions (even if its not explicity mentioned) Quote By Tuesday, the island's Olympic committee -- which answers to Taiwan's sports governing body -- said there was a change of plans due to the Games' international governing body "requiring" attendance. So its perfectly fine for China to boycott not one but three opening ceremonies Taiwan held (2009 Deaflympics, 2009 World Games, 2017 Universiade), but when Taiwan tries to do it for justified reasons, they get evil eyes? **** the IOC. I hope their Social Credits were worth it.

DPRK boycotted tokyo 2020, and they were banned from participating this year, seems pretty fair for me that if chinese taipei wants to do the same, they get punished on paris 2024. Sport ≠ Politics Except DPKR boycotted the games as a whole, not just the ceremonies. Pretty sure Taiwan's plan was to just send their flagbearer to the ceremonies. At the 2014 Paralympics, Ukraine did the same. The IOC did no actions toward them.
Ikarus360
Anyway, moving on from the subject. I posted this in another thread but 30 seconds of the Opening Ceremony were shown. Could not find it in Youtube nor Twitter but in a chinese website, which I assume is the usual OBS snippet they show one week before an opening. Watch under your discretion. http://www.tjbh.com/c/2022-02-01/995933.shtml
