Ikarus360 Posted August 10, 2023 Report Posted August 10, 2023 Things not looking good for Busan bid after the catastrophe which has been the World Scout Jamboree in Saemangeum so far. A mix of weather conditions (heat wave, typhoon) and many other problems with its organization. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-66425588 Quote
SportLightning Posted August 11, 2023 Author Report Posted August 11, 2023 That could mean Riyadh's (Saudi Arabia) bid could extend their lead since they have more than 100 countries supporting the Riyadh candidature. Quote
SportLightning Posted August 11, 2023 Author Report Posted August 11, 2023 I think the guess likely with for the results of the Expo 2030 host: 1. Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) winner 2. Busan (South Korea) runner-up 3. Rome (Italy) [Eliminated] Quote
Ikarus360 Posted August 11, 2023 Report Posted August 11, 2023 Busan is considered by many journalists and critics as the favorite, but lets not fool ourselves. Salman will do anything in his reach to keep buying events for his Agenda Whitewashing 2030 (keeping in line with how every Gulf state has been trying to get the sport world inside their pockets over the last decade), and getting the Expo would be the jewel of the crown of his ambition. The only thing which might hurt Riyadh bid is the fact UAE edition is still recent. Still though... SK is aware of this which is why every single big company in the country (Samsung, LG, etc.) has compromised to support the Busan bid. However, things like the Jamboree (which were apparently also caused by very bad mismanagement which is kinda unusual for them) might be a very ugly stain for their race. Quote
SportLightning Posted August 12, 2023 Author Report Posted August 12, 2023 Riyadh does has a lot of countries supporting the bid. Riyadh's bid does trying to boost the agenda Saudi Vision 2030 with its tourism, sustainability and build a better future. Quote
SportLightning Posted August 12, 2023 Author Report Posted August 12, 2023 Riyadh's Expo 2030 sub themes connected to the theme: "An Era of Change: Together For a Foresighted Tomorrow". are: "Prosperity for All", "Climate Action" and "A Different Tomorrow". Quote
SportLightning Posted September 8, 2023 Author Report Posted September 8, 2023 Guys, we only have two months left until the Expo 2030 host is announced. Almost 100 countries have supported the Riyadh candidature. Busan has some support along with Rome, which puts Riyadh in the lead. If Riyadh wins the bid, would promise a inclusive and sustainable Expo ever as part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy for tourism, economic, health and a new future. Quote
SportLightning Posted October 11, 2023 Author Report Posted October 11, 2023 Host will be decided on 28th next month. Quote
SportLightning Posted November 20, 2023 Author Report Posted November 20, 2023 If Riyadh wins the bid to host the Expo 2030 next week, the capital of Saudi Arabia are pulling out all the stops. Quote
SportLightning Posted November 27, 2023 Author Report Posted November 27, 2023 We're two days left for the big day of the Expo 2030 host announcement. Quote
SportLightning Posted November 28, 2023 Author Report Posted November 28, 2023 Today is the big day. Riyadh is most likely to win the bid since the Saudi Arabian capital city is the favorite to host. Quote
SportLightning Posted November 28, 2023 Author Report Posted November 28, 2023 Huge congratulations to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia the host city of the Expo 2030. We also like to thank very much to Busan, South Korea and Rome, Italy. We will see you in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the Expo 2030. Quote

Ikarus360 Posted November 29, 2023 Report Posted November 29, 2023 Lmao, they're VERY desperate to wash their image. The saddest thing is I saw this coming from a mile ever since months ago, given how they've invested so much in getting every single event. After they got the 2034 WC anyone doubting they wouldn't also put their hands in the Expo was too optimistic. On the brighter side, SK should now solely focus in getting the Summer Olympics. That is if Bach doesn't sell himself to the Saudis like everyone else has been doing. Quote

TBH it would not surprise me if Saudi or Qatar has their sights on 2036 and area already doing behind the scenes meddling to enable it. The new norm is opaque enough see it happen with little external scrutiny until its a done deal. What frustrates me is that this might very well happen, along with a shifting of dates to November/December to make it happen. This sucks for cities like Melbourne, Sydney, Cape Town, Buenos Aries, Johannesburg who have sucked up the IOC's advice that they will never host the Olympics post New Norm due to the July/August hosting requirement. zigzag Posted November 29, 2023 Report Posted November 29, 2023 I wonder if you guys have viewed this And I feel like as much as we here think like "lol, the desperation is real", That's clearly not how locals view them, BIE twitter were bombarded by Saudi netizens online, ofc mostly by youngsters energized to support the bid unlike other bids mostly supported by older gens and that might be one small factor that helped Riyadh winning their bid 4 hours ago, Ikarus360 said: On the brighter side, SK should now solely focus in getting the Summer Olympics. LOL, you must be in a rock thinking these cities are available now. First let's wait till Argentina survives just 2 years of the new presidency (If the new president is not sacked like happened in 2001 or is impeached in 2025, but then wait for the Vicepresident as the daughter of militars). And that's not counting we're talking about a country on the brink of financial defeat with almost no reserves. As for South Africa, considering they're on the brink to elect a Robert Mugabe wannabe and the country is in spiral of doom since 2010s. The last thing both cities and countries need right now is an Olympic bid. Anyway... We know this was for Riyadh's to lose, but damn this was a no contest at all... That Rome defeat must be a blow hit in the ego for Meloni's aspirations (especially for next year European elections). Not even reaching a majority of European votes should be gutting. Quote

SportLightning Posted November 30, 2024 Author Report Posted November 30, 2024 Here's the logo for the Expo 2030 Riyadh. It will be official in the coming months. This logo i think is inspired by a traditional Saudi motif pattern. Quote
