Lol, they'd be better served if they just went for the 2028 winter youth games, period, this time around. And then that perhaps being useful as a platform for a later adult Winter Olympic Games in 2034 (if there is no double now), but more likely, maybe 2038.

They're just trying to bite-off more than they can chew at this point, which seems ridiculous. Especially when they withdrew their 2022 winter Olympic bid due to Russian tensions. And guess what, the same thing is still happening with Russian aggression towards them. So protecting their borders should be TOP priority right now from these Ukrainian officials, instead of being so fanciful with all these silly Olympic bids.

I agree with Ukraine hosting the Winter Youth Olympics 2028. Ukraine has never host a Olympic Games of any level so the 2028 Winter YOG would be the first time that Ukraine has hosted it.

I agree about the dipping toe in the water thing.  It gets initial exposure.  the youth games is NOT a bad idea, and Id say theyd have a pretty darn good shot at that.  it puts a pretty dang good credential on the resume for the future.  

But 2030 I have mixed feelings about, but if Sapporo and Vancouver drop off, and SLC wants 2034, watch out.

The IOC is all about corporate risk these days and SUPER safe bids (US/ Can/ Aus/ Japan/ Korea/ major Western European cities)...I cant see how they would go with Ukraine unless they were very desperate.

Lol "watch out". The thing is, the IOC doesn't have to be very desperate for 2030. They still have SLC, which actually wants 2030. It's the USOC that preferred 2034. But even as recently as a couple of weeks ago, it was reported that even they are starting to lean more towards 2030 (something tells me there that both the IOC & USOC are ready to strike a deal on 2030 if absolutely necessary). The IOC would have to be on a suicide mission to even touch the Ukraine right now.

All Zelenskyy wants the winter Olympics for, is for a vanity project, which would require massive investment (which many in the Ukraine already criticize, when their gov't tells them that they already have budget problems & paying back their creditors, but Olympic bids are of course practical), & negatively impacting environmentally sensitive land. But hey, what's a couple of dozen Billion for a winter party, when you're own people are struggling. 

 The Ukraine needs to take baby steps. Sure, try for the youth Olympics first (as redundant, useless & wasteful as they already are) for 2028, but 2032 would probably be better. And THEN try for the big version, in say 2038 or 2042. But trying to do both now, the youth & adult Winter Olympics back-to-back, is just wreckless for a country in such a dire economic & political predicament ATM.
