amorincognito
Today, one day after the bid submission of Suisse 2026 Montreux, the bid committee is coming out into the spotlight. In a massive rally at the Place du Marché in support of the bid, echoed by evening demonstrations at the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf (Bern), Letzigrund (Zürich), St. Jakob Park (Basel) and the Stade de Genève, where the ceremony in Montreux is being broadcast, the bid committee emerges for the first time, with bid chairman Stéphane Lambiel at the head. The two-time figure skating world champion and Olympic silver medalist accepted his position in front of this large crowd: "As an Olympian, and as a proud Swiss, I am honoured to be a part of this great effort. Yesterday, I personally delivered the bid book and today more than ever we are all electrified by your support. The bid is your bid, the book is yours, and the Games will be a chance for you, as Swiss, to share your passion with the world."

amorincognito
As public interest in Suisse 2026 Montreux and the development of the winter resorts in the Alpes Vaudoises continues, particular concern has been stressed over the future status of the Col des Mosses ski jumps, should they be dismantled after the Games. Today, the Col des Mosses ski resort, along with the communal and cantonal authorities, have announced the project Centre Nordique Vaudois, a plan to integrate the ski jumps into a larger plan for the Col des Mosses resort to be the premier Nordic skiing resort in Switzerland. Says bid chairman Stéphane Lambiel : "Our team is delighted that a permanent legacy has been secured for a Nordic centre at Les Mosses. It already has the largest cross country skiing area of the region and will greatly benefit from a sustainable ski jumping venue. "Suisse 2026 Montreux has been informed that there will be no additional cost to the future OCOG for the development of this venue for permanent use. There is a viable legacy for ski jumping in the region, and the Centre Nordique Vaudois will be a welcome complement to the excellent Alpine skiing areas of the region. This will make the Alpes Vaudoises an attractive destination for all winter sports, and we are committed to making ours an example for sustainability." There already exists at Les Mosses a training centre for the Swiss Ski Federation. Church at Les Mosses
amorincognito
The Suisse 2026 Montreux bid committee and officials from the Swiss Federal Railways are presenting in Montreux today some finer details of the plans for Olympic regional and local transport. Among the plans include a set of high-speed rail lines connecting all five major cities of Switzerland with each other and with surrounding countries, and a new 15-km rail line to be built within the Alpes Vaudoises. Bid chairman Stéphane Lambiel thanked the Swiss Federal Railways and other government entities for their cooperation: "The options presented to us by the Swiss Federal Railways as part of their own plans for improving the local and national rail infrastructure have been a great contribution to the bid. All levels of government have approved the plans as part of general development plans for the future of the citizens and of visitors." On the local level, the Swiss Federal Railways had initially proposed a 33-km rail link that would connect the entirety of the Alpes Vaudoises region by rail from north to south, but this proposal was rejected by municipal councils due to its potentially negative environmental impact on areas north of Les Mosses, leaving the essential rail link between the resorts that are potential venues for the Winter Olympic Games. Using Le Sépey as the main hub, each resort will be 15 minutes away. The global plans for the Swiss system include the introduction of high-speed service using existing lines to connect major cities, reducing travel times by half. The “Capital Express” is a planned service radiating from Bern, connecting the capital city to Zürich, Basel and Lausanne in 30 minutes. The “Simplon Vitesse” line is to connect Geneva to Milan through Lausanne and the Simplon Pass, reducing the journey from Geneva to Lausanne to 20 minutes. This means, with a 15-minute journey from Montreux to Lausanne, that all of the five largest Swiss cities are less than 80 minutes away. This provides for convenient usage not only of the international airport at Geneva-Cointrin, but also those at Zürich-Kloten and Basel-Mulhouse. Alain Rey, transportation liaison for the Montreux 2026 bid committee, has spent the last few months travelling around the region to gauge support for transportation improvements and for how the Swiss would travel to the Olympic Games, should they be held in Switzerland. “The Swiss want the Winter Games in their country again and are happy to use rails to get there. Also, when I ask how foreigners would travel within Switzerland, ‘by rail’ was the reply the vast majority of times. The people have great faith in the system and have expressed their desire to bring their country even closer together.”
