/\/\ That's nothing.  That's one of the smaller expenditures in the history of bidding.  I don't even know why you posted it.  For 2016, Tokyo and Chicago spend about $75 mil on each of their bids--among the biggest losers.  Sochi spent like $95 mil but it was a successful bid for 2014.

This story has got nothing to do with the size of losses on past failed bids.

You seemed to have missed the actual story which is everything to do with Catalonia political party CUP getting angry with the advertising money spent by the Government of Catalonia of just promoting the failed bid to the tune of €330,000.

This story is also about COE President Alejandro Blanco explaining why he withdrew the bid altogether.

Further, the story is also about the currently stalled go-it-alone bid by the Government of Catalonia who in July announced its intention of hosting Winter Olympics independently.
