Roger87
Now, watching this discussion about Erdogan this or Imamoglu that. I found funny how this discussion went to the opposite spectrum when so far, it's looking Istanbul as the (early) frontrunner of this race. Practically we saw representatives of both national and local level being on link with Bach and representatives of the IOC. In recent weeks, this has been hyped not just by Turkish, by a good part of the "third world" If Germany flops again with the bid process (which it's looking likely with their recent prospect now discussing which olympics you want for different years and places lol), Istanbul may surprise. iceman530
A bit at a loss........the Lira is now at a stunning 27 to the dollar. Thats profoundly shocking for that currency given how much value it has lost over the past decade. But.......in a country like Turkey, with leadership like Turkey, theyll still do it. It's not just the financial risk, it's the security risk as well. A German or for that matter any Western European bid (London especially) would clear the field quickly. I'd even put a second bid from Seoul or a bid from China ahead of Istanbul at this point. The IOC wants safe bids.

Hopefully not, I think they could swing it
FYI
Perhaps that question is better served in the Poland 2036 thread. But the key word in their post is "Western" Europe, which Poland is not. And as someone else poised it in the Poland thread just yesterday, maybe they could be a good "back-up plan" if nothing else solid from Europe materializes. But that's still a long ways off, though, since the IOC still has yet to get a 2030 host to sign on the dotted line.
