Does anyone else think Dublin could host? They have some large sports facilities and a planned metro system. I would love to see it there. Istanbul, Budapest, Rome, Jakarta, Madrid and Singapore, are my top choices.

I think my guess for 2036 could be Berlin-Tel Aviv (Germany-Israel), then 2040 to Casablanca (Morocco)

Oh don’t be so frigging stupid! Berlin-Tel Avis is NOT happening. It was only ever a symbolic gesture/thought bubble to address the troublesome legacy of 1936 that quickly got dismissed by the government. It’s not serious, it’s not necessary and Berlin can quite easily on its own host the Olympics in the future. Quit keeping that stupid idea alive.

Morocco as a follow up is pretty much just as stupid.

Well, yeah. But that whole Berlin-Tel Aviv crap should have been buried in the dark depths of this board a long time ago, but for TeamBlake SportsLightning keeping resurrecting it. F*cking stupid to have that original thread started in the first place.

I think it was part of someone’s attempt to show the IOC was so deluged with potential bidders for 2036 it was having to beat them off with sticks ;)

Dublin?  The capital of a wee country of 5.something million people?  You're joking, right?

If Greece w/ 11 million people can barely sustain all those 2004 venues, what makes you think Dublin-Ireland can maintain 28+ venues -- not to mention 200 TRAINING sites (OK, 198, minus Russia and Belarus )  around the country, post-Games?   (Not unless you plan on converting all those stadia and arenas as "refugee" housing for whomever are the refugees on a given month??

I don't know if Dublin could host.

It can't.  Dublin & Ireland just don't have the size, the mass and the economy to do it.  Why do you think they have NEVER bid?

Rule of thumb: your city must first host an IOC Session at least or a regional games to be taken seriously.  And the host country must have a STRONG sporting culture.  That is India's biggest drawback + they are crap organizers.  Made a mess of CWG 2010.

And the IOC wants its products in A+ or at least new, solvent, vibrant cities, given a choice.

i participated with this logo for the 15th Annual Gamesbids Olympic Logo Competition.. and wanted to share HERE under the "istanbul 2036" thread.. via the link beneath for those who are interested can admire the other prescious fantasy logos of other users that have participated..

Little information about the fantasy logo:

Direct vision: a whirling dervish designed with simple lines in red referred to the overall turkish (flag) colour & 2 black stripes forming the belt of the dervish symbolising the 2 bridges over the bosphorus.

Second vision: these simple lines stylished as the contoures of the two continents forming the city-map of istanbul whereby the used font-shapes of the digits 3 & 6 forming respectively the european/asian side of the bicontinental city.

Third vision: The papyrus-font creates the perfect style of the first & last letter of the city-name that shapes the bosphorus bridge, namely the letter 'i' and the letter 'L'.. also forming the Roman "II' that also indicates the bi-continental consciousness

with the disappointing news of Madrid biting the dust, the field remains Istanbul, Qatar, India, Egypt, Indonesia, and RuSSia.

I know its early days, but out of that "basket of deplorables", Istanbul is looking pretty dang good.....

Its a long way out but.........man.  If a UK bid without a track stadium is the best we can do, thats not gonna cut the mustard.  Will see who else can come out of the woodwork.......Canada?  Independent Scotland?  100 year germany centenial?  Frankly, that one is looking less and less scary now.

Point being, Istanbul as things currently stands looks like the least turd sandwichy of the bunch.

Russia at the moment is a big NO, not from us, but from the international community, even IOC, russia's old ally is angry at them, doubt there will be a russian olympics. India and Egypt are the dark horses of this forum, literally has seen no one supporting indian or egyptian bid, even though both are building OLYMPIC SIZED FACILITIES, and already had dialogues with IOC for the 2032 thing. Qatar bid will depend on the success of 2022 world cup, which given the need for competent international level bids IOC requires, may be a desperate move and also remember that for the they will already have hosted most of the mayor sports world cups (swimming, athletics, gymnastics, handball and obviously soccer) which is a great event experience considering most of them will happen in a time-span of less than 10 years, without mentioning the experience of both asian games 2006 and 2030. Budapest will probably be submerged by a referendum. And the probably favourite at the moment would be istanbul, whose only experience at the moment is the hosting of 5 failed euro bids and 3 failed olympic bids, and 2 champions league finals, (Also istanbul is a majestic city, which would give an amazing background to the olympics). A bid that I think could be presented while 2025 (the probable year of election) comes is Seoul, which may succeed if they surrender the idea of DPRK co-hosting the thing (why hosting the event with the country that has just been banned for boycotting the games), a con to this bid is the time zone similar to brisbane 2032. Struggling to see competent european bids besides madrid (disregarded), moscow (banned), ukraine (no explanation needed)and of course, germany (1936 flashbacks). So in resume the most plausible options are probably in middle east, southern asia bids incluiding Qatar (if success in WC 2022), Egypt, India and Istanbul. Maybe it's time to try new borders for IOC

Building "Olympic sized facilities" doesn't really mean much, if the locales in which they are being built, are anything but stellar. And besides that, it's still ignoring the big elephant in the room, the all-crucial July 15th-Aug. 31st IOC time preference window, which makes any bid from the likes of Qatar, India & Indonesia non-starters anyway right from the gate.

And from a security perspective, Egypt makes Ukraine look like a walk in the park. That said, out of the "basket of deplorables" (LUV that coin btw lol), I'd have to agree that Istanbul is the absolute beauty queen here. Picturesque, moderate summer climate in the IOC's preferred time window, & ticks the European box, as a bonus, which the IOC has never been away from for more than two summer cycles.

Says who, Brisbane was chosen 11 years on for reasons I will not mention again as they involve cue words for a certain someone.

The IOC can happily decide to wait for a few more years until 2027-2029 if it makes the future more predictable as it is now. 2025 or so would only make sense if there is an absolutely supersafe bid there and the IOC wants to lock it in. That may be the UK, but I‘d say that‘s far from certain and I think the IOC would rather see some other Europeans to step up (and give them some more years to do so, if necessary).

Agree, and also considering the 2020 bid plan, an eventual istanbul olympics would imply the construction of  2 beijingesque olympic park across the city. Given the fact that Istanbul is the best of that lot means it's well within the IOC's interest to wait things out a see if a credible Western European bid emerges (the IOC put on their stupid hats again the Madrid) so right now I'd say eyes will be fixed on what the UK does or if perhaps Milan's success gives support for another shot from Rome (this would be my preference) or Seoul. The rest of those bids are non-starters. New frontiers are out for the foreseeable future after the financial fiasco in Rio.

Egypt - Does anyone really think a country that it's new planned capital city will be done by 2036? Highly unlikely and besides the heat there's an ISIS presence in the Sinai. The IOC will go nowhere near Egypt.

India - Besides the monsoon issue, it's in the same category as Brazil was, a third world country that would have to spend well beyond its means for an Olympics in terms of infrastructure and facilities.

Qatar - Only if there are literally no other bids as the IOC isn't going outside the designated time for a SOGs to take place.

Bottom line is this. Unless it's a bid from Western Europe, the USA, China, Korea, or maybe Canada the IOC isn't going to be interested. They want safe hosts. Indonesia, Qatar, anywhere in South America or Africa, and most of Eastern Europe do not qualify. I'd put Istanbul in that category as well but Istanbul would need a proposed bid from one of the aforementioned "safe hosts" to fall apart or not materialize.

Thats not exactly right, istanbul organised in the last 20 years:

- 3x uefa-league finales and the 4th one is comming in 2023 >> https://i.imgur.com/dfH7mP2.png

- 9x formula-1 at Istanbul-Park >> Istanbul Park - Wikipedia

- 34x cross-continental swim >> Bosphorus Cross Continental Swim - Wikipedia

- 44x istanbul marathon >> Istanbul Marathon - Wikipedia

- 4x istanbul open tennis (men) >> Istanbul Open - Wikipedia

- 14x istanbul cup tennis (wonen) >> İstanbul Cup - Wikipedia

- 1x IAAF indoor athletics >> 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships - Wikipedia

- 1x FIBA world basket champs >> 2010 FIBA World Championship - Wikipedia

- 1x LEN swimming shortcourse champs >> 2009 European Short Course Swimming Championships - Wikipedia

- 1x U-20 world-cup >> 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup - Wikipedia

- 2x world amputee football cup in istanbul >> Turkey national amputee football team - Wikipedia

- 1x eurovolley champs in istanbul (men) >> 2009 Men's European Volleyball Championship - Wikipedia

- 3x eurovolley champs in ankara (wonen) >> 2003 Women's European Volleyball Championship - Wikipedia

- 1x euro champs artistic gymnastics in mersin (men + wonen) >> 2020 European Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships - Wikipedia

- a lot world/euro/balcan championships in istanbul in a wide variety of sports: weightlifting, karate, judo, teakwondo, wrestling, archery, athletics, gymnastics, triatlon, etcetera - even a euro-leg of ice-hockey/curling/ski-jumping..

>> 3x 1994 World Weightlifting Championships - Wikipedia

THIS LIST WOULD BE VERY LONG .. istanbul is a decent sports-city,

- but we miss something like YOG or EUROPEAN GAMES or WORLD ATHLETICS/SWIMMING CHAMPS

- but we miss also big organisations for equestrian, canoe, track-cycling, etcetera

- however the bidding for the euro's in 2028 will boost also an eventual olympic bid

- istanbul has a +/- 250.000 hotel-bed capacity with over the +/- 1.000 hotels (more then paris)

- Here i made a lot of lists ABOUT international organizations .. Clicl on link below

Well, this year though, that will quickly be forgotten by the Women's World Championships which will start in late September and be split between the Netherlands and Poland.  The Championships will be a bigger tournament with 24 nations.  I think VNL only has 12 or 16.
