Istanbul 2036

I think it's a bit early days to assume Russia is out of everything for the next 50 years. At least I wouldn't hope so for the general Russian population.

Munich 1972 was 27 years after WW2, for example.

And Istanbul can only be a "safe" choice if the other options are Jakarta or Novosibirsk really.

I still believe Istanbul is a "safe" choice.  Hope Im not wrong about this one too.

Too close to a war zone regardless of how the war in Ukraine plays out. A UK bid or a Madrid bid if they figure out the athletics stadium issue are much safer options.

Therein lies the if.  If they cant, I assess Istanbul jumps to the front of the line.  Then again, I fully recognize my "gamebids cred" has diminished since fronting for Almaty or Lviv, so I know full well what my opinion is worth now :(

I would expand on my initial post that any bid from Western Europe would vault ahead of a potential Istanbul bid in addition to any bids from China or South Korea (Shanghai or Seoul). If there's no bid from Western Europe or either China or Korea then I could see the IOC giving Istanbul a try.

Even China?  You think so?

Not after Beijing 2022.  The only thing China  might have a realistic chance of hosting in the next decade or so, is the World Cup. Maybe FIFA will give them the Women's WC.

You said hosting a FIFA world cup like it was some school tournament. What could countries like morocco or egypt give for hosting this event, which in the other hand is so easily achieveable for china to host

Precisely.  I am putting China off the map for awhile, for multiple reasons.  Theyve hosted recently and theyre also a human rights disaster.  Id reckon its at least 2040 before we look into China again.

So with China off, Russia off, United States off (hosting 2028), the field narrows

If nothing emerges in Europe or Canada, well.......Istanbul is lining up very nicely.  That said, I will be biding my time rooting for Scotland 2036.

But with weightlifting off the Summer slate -- and this is where Turkey got its most medals -- would Turkey still be interested?

Maybe if it went to Germany, they could be postponed a year for something . . . like hoof-and-mouth disease just so it doesn't fall on 1936 anniversary -- and have provisions that all the materiel can be updated to 2037??  Just a thought.

I think Mexico City-Guadalajara or Toronto-Montreal would be the strongest bids for 2036.

Maybe Toronto-Montreal, Canada could host the 2036 edition.

Every 20 years since Montreal, the Americas has hosted the Summer Olympics.

1976 - Montreal (Americas)

1996 - Atlanta (Americas)

2016 - Rio (Americas)

2036 - Toronto-Montreal (Americas)

Here's another, more noticeable trend: Europe has never gone more than 12 years without a Summer Olympics. And Paris 2024 to 2036 would be 12 years.

I'd also put Rio 2016 under the latest trend of: the Summer Olympics going "down under" per se, south of the equator every 16 years, instead;

Sydney 2000

Rio 2016

Brisbane 2032

Is Istanbul a safer option for 2036?

Relatively speaking, depends on who else is showing interest in bidding. Compared to the likes of Doha-hah, Jakarta, Cairo or India, then I would say yes, Istanbul would be 'safer'. But compared to bids from Western Europe or North America, then I would have to say no. But keep in mind, that "safer" can also be subjective, especially when we're talking about an international audience like the IOC.

Like what do they have to offer or show?

What about an exotic, new locale for the Olympic Movement? Isn't that what the Olympics are suppose to be about anyway? Exploring new territories & cultures?

On that same token, what does Toronto-Montreal have to show or offer (especially from a country like Canada that's hosted the Olympics multiple times already)? Plus, either of those two cities can host alone. I don't see a need for a joint-bid in this case. So I don't know where this latest notion is coming from, since I haven't seen it anywhere else, other than from a couple of posters here.
