Well, on Friday, the NHL playoffs begin to determine this year's Stanley Cup winners. Here's how the whole "new season" is going to begin:

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

(a) Ottawa Senators (1) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (8; 2004 Stanley Cup Winners)

(B) Carolina Hurricanes (2) vs. Montreal Canadiens (7)

WESTERN CONFERENCE:

Notes to make about the whole playoff series so far:

- all TOP four teams of the Eastern Conference have gone to the semi-finals.

- all BOTTOM four teams of the Western Conference have gone to the semi-finals.

- the Presidents' Trophy winner team for this season is out of the playoffs.

- BOTH Stanley Cup finalists from 2004 (there was no NHL season for 2004-2005) did not move on past the first round.

- only two Canadian teams left (one for each conference) to go for the Stanley Cup.
