IOC CONFIRMATION:    New Norm Host Selection Process

10 COUNTRIES CONFIRMED TO BE IN CONTINUOUS DIALOGUE WITH THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE FOR THE 2036 SUMMER GAMES

India is believed to be one of the ten countries.

This report below from Inside The Games today:

The outcome of these December 10 crucial Indian Olympic Association elections will have a big bearing on not it is suspended as a NOC and whether or not the May 2023 full IOC Session goes ahead in Mumbai at all which then may impact a future Indian candidature for an Olympic/Paralympic Games, eg Ahmedabad 2036.

The issue with India is not so much the temps, since 79-93F degrees seems pretty average for a lot of cities around the world during the summer (which I'm sure Atlanta's 1996 temps were pretty similar), but it's those monsoon rains in India during the IOC's mandated time-window of July 15th-Aug. 31st. And which is still the big elephant in the room when it comes to any Olympic bid from India (or others with wildly inclement weather during July/Aug). Even the October 2010 CWG's still had some concerns over monsoons.

Mumbai 2023 IOC Session

“Last December, Indian Sports Minister Anurag Thakur detailed plans to present a bid for the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games at the Mumbai Session.”

“He underlined Gujarat's interest in staging the Games, and said he was hopeful that the meeting would provide an opportunity to advance its plans.”

“He was quoted as describing 2036 - 140 years after the first modern Games in Athens - as "the right time to host the Games", while asking, "If India is making news in every sector from manufacturing to services, then why not in sports?"

“An Indian Olympics, if successfully executed, would amount to a powerful symbol of the country's rising standing in the world, much as Beijing 2008 was for China.”

“And, while Lausanne would be anxious to get the timing right, an Indian Games also has much to commend it from an IOC viewpoint, in terms of expanding its global footprint and unlocking the sub-continent's considerable income-generation potential for the Olympic Movement.”

“It is 40 years since India hosted the 86th IOC Session in 1983.”

“That was in New Delhi, so we will have moved from the city of politics to the city of finance.”

“It could be argued that the IOC had experienced a similar trajectory over exactly the same stretch of time; but then came the Russian invasion of February 2022, and politics - all too abruptly - returned.“

Thakur makes the comparison between a potential Indian bid and Beijing's hosting in 2008. Big difference that he fails to mention. Going into the 2008 race, Beijing had already successfully hosted the Asian Games and the Summer Universiade while also coming g up just short for the 2000 Olympics. In other words, Beijing had the evidence of successfully hosting multisport events leading to their eventual hosting.

India has none of those. They last hosted the Asian Games in 1982 and since then have failed in multiple attempts to host them again. Then of course we all know about the 2010 Commonwealth Games disaster. So I go back to the same argument as before, if you cannot host a successful Commonwealth Games or Asian Games, how can you take on a SOGs. The answer is India cannot.

India should show the world how much their hosting capabilities have improved since 2010 by hosting the 2030 Comm Games and then they can bid for 2040 Olympics.

Interesting fun fact:

Ahmedabad is home to the biggest stadium on the planet:

Narendra Modi Stadium

Capacity: 132,000

Purpose: Presently, the largest stadium in the world is located in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad. Used solely for cricket in all forms of the game, it’s the home of the National Indian cricket team, as well as the Gujarat Titans domestically.

Still, Ahmedabad has a mountain to climb even just weather-wise. Weather websites show the IOC required July-August Hosting window shows very wet weather in those two months in Ahmedabad.

Yep, that's nothing new either. The elephant-in-the-room topic for India which they conveniently never address when talking about an Olympic bid there.

Bach claims there is "strong case" for India to host 2036 Olympic Games

“International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has said there is a "strong case" for India to host the Olympic Games in 2036.”

“Indian Sports Minister Anurag Thakur reiterated last month that the country was looking to bid for the event.”

But what about the big elephant in the room; the TIME-FRAME, Bach! This only reminds of the time when Rogge said that Havana had "great chances" of hosting the Olympics.

Every time I watched these kind of videos from India this reminds me their annual Oscar "snubs" when they simply had zero idea about how Hollywood campaigns work but even "experts" talk about this lol.

I mean, I guess its on brand for the IOC anointing all the world's third tier cities that never would have won under the old voting system. Ahmedabad is basically the Brisbane of India.

Can't wait for Winnipeg 2040, Kazan 2044, and Chongqing 2048.

Usual diplomacy from Bach and the IOC.  Waiting for the sell from India to be "we now have more people than China" and playing their own one-fifth of humanity card.  Of course, Bach will probably be gone by the time this decision gets made, so he's just paving the runway for the next president.

Unlike Brisbane, it isn‘t even 3rd biggest city of India. It‘s only selling point is that it‘s Modi‘s home ground basically in Gujarat.
