Victorian
I am going to Queensland in a few weeks for the AFL. Will be going to Brisbane after the Gold Coast. I will review getting from Broadbeach/Surfers (main tourist area on the Gold Coast) to the Brisbane CBD near the Gabba. Hoping to do a Gabba tour before the new stadium is built. Anthony
Okay, I'm still baffled why they rushed to pick Brisbane. I feel like it will usher in another era of quiet games like we've seen over the last few cycles.

No matter how this came to be, I have no doubt the Aussies will create an amazing and lively games atmosphere. With both Athletics and swimming within walking distance from the CBD and right in the city, these games will probably feel very intimate and see a lot of local enthusiasm.

It’s officially called the New Norm and is the new process for selecting Olympic hosts. “Bidding” has gone. Brisbane was the first Summer or Winter Host selected under the New Norm process. It wasn’t rushed at all, that’s a myth, it was just new. The New Norm: It’s a Games changer announced to the world at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Gamess IOC Session in 2018. Brisbane shot out of the blocks and over the next 3.5 years was never headed by rivals until it’s Host Election in July 2021. Aussies don’t do anything quiet. Melbourne 1956, Sydney 2000 and again in Brisbane 2032 it will be one big party as it welcomes the world post-Covid.

Yeah, I’m happy that Brisbane was chosen, think it’s a solid choice, and, yeah, I think we’ll get “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!” raucous rather than “quiet” (whatever that means?). It’s just such a pity that it’s method of selection - and it doesn’t matter whether it was totally above board or not - has tarnished its ascension. baron-pierreIV
As long as there are NONE of this f*cking vuvuzelas which spoiled South Africa 2010 for me!! Maybe that's another impediment as to why the Olympics have bypassed Games hopeful Durban. So, with 2032 in Brisbane, that means that the next closest date Africa/So. Arica can hope to host is 2040. Maybe they will have muted those noisy vuvuzelas!!
Victorian
Brisbane 2032 was by far the best choice which is why the IOC went with us. We love our sport, we actually rock up to events and there is a guarantee that all facilities will be used post games. No Athens, Beijing and Rio in Brisbane! I'm looking at it through an American lens and I'm making a sweeping generalization here, but I'm confident that most Americans don't know where Brisbane is. A lack of familiarity with a city makes it hard for Americans to invest in a Games. Also the lack of buzz from selection doesn't help either. Just be reassured that amongst Australians, Brisbane and Queensland isn’t exactly known for being quiet or introverted (and it’s not like Aussies in general have a reputation for being shy and retiring ). BTW - if many don’t know where Brisbane is, I’m sure they also don’t know how to pronounce it. It’s Briz-b’n (don’t pronounce the a), not Briz-bayne (as I’ve heard too many Americans say). Olympics2028
^ I think you say that Melbourne is the Australian city most equipped to host a summer games. But his video blows me away. For philosophical/strategic reasons, I kind of wanted Sydney to make a bid again. But as you mentioned about climate issues and broadcasting stipulations, both Sydney and Melbourne are too far south. But I wonder if people in Sydney pushed for another games but got muscled aside by Brisbane? I know in the US, for several years Boston/Chicago/SF/NYC, etc, were treated as default options to holding another games in LA. This is why the constantly traveling nature of the Olympic games should be changed so that the build-use-and-move-on model is altered. If the concept of this being always reserved for summer games were implemented, that would be both more green-Earth friendly and sustainable:

Never touted, never speculated. Melbourne’s the sports-mad city whose citizens would all give their left eyeballs to host another games. Sydney’s more “been there, done that”.
