This is ridiculous. Who deleted it?

Hi guys, I’ve managed to do some a rebuild as best as I could from some of the stories, articles and developments.

Apologies for some duplicated posts that I’ve noticed - was going a bit cross-eyed.

Anyway, ‘Brisbane 2032’ is open again and everyone’s contributions and respectful comments are appreciated as we are all Olympic fans together.

Thankyou to Gamesbids.com administrators who apologised  and for tried to restore the original ‘Brisbane 2032’ threads, which were about to tick over into it’s 2000th post when the unfortunate accidental deletion occurred.

But this is not going to hold us back as we chat, debate and comment toward a third amazing Olympic and Paralympic Games down under at Brisbane 2032 in beautiful Queensland.

It’s good to see the ongoing investment is upgrading and improving Ferry services along the Brisbane River.

I also recall a ferry was used to transport the torch to Stadium Australia from the Sydney CBD on Opening Ceremony night, 15 September 2000.  Herb Elliott then carried it to the Stadium and handed it to Raylene Boyle and Betty Cuthbert.

Could we see ferrys again used in again in this way in 2032 ?

Here is a screen grab from the Sydney OC showing a Sydney Rivercat carrying the flame to the Olympic Stadium.

RE: Sydney ferry and the flame

I think I read that they wanted the flame somewhere safe and out of the way during the Opening Ceremony- so send it down to the docks and put it on the water for an hour or two......

London's flame came in by boat too!

Thanks, excellent historical info there.  I didnt know know about London’s flame coming in by water.

It was an incredible night in Sydney and my first ever Opening Ceremony to witness in person. The ticket cost an arm and a leg, but it was so worth it.

I was at the Opening too...best night of my life!

I remember getting off the train at Concord West Train Station having come in from the north and looking at how overcast and threatening the sky looked late afternoon.

From the train station, through an underpass, the crowd marshalls directed us through the Olympic parklands over to Stadium Australia.  What a feeling of anticipation it was and thankfully, there was no rain.

My seat was high up well above the athletes entrance and when the flame was lit, we felt the heat of the cauldron washing all the way up to where we were seated.

I was on the tier right above Juan Antonio and the gang on the front railing....best seats in the house! However, my new digital camera failed about 5 minutes in and I got no pics...not to worry there are pics and videos everywhere now, and I could concentrate on the show!  I caught the train in from my house hosting 12 people!

Best day of my life was carrying the Olympic torch into Byron Bay (ala my avatar pic)...

Your seats sound truly amazing for such a memorable life experience.  Yes looking at the OC video now you can see people holding up cameras everywhere,  before the smartphone era.  Yes, you’re right, plenty of photos online. My camera photos weren’t the best

I remember the buzz of the very first look at the stadium set-up when I walked in and I couldn’t figure out  where the cauldron was going to travel as had no idea that it was hidden under the top tier of the stage. I also recall the jumbo screens were gradually scrolling through different international messages such as, “Wave if you are from Canada,” .. or “South Africa”,  etc etc.

Great photo of you with the torch by the way. It must have been truly amazing  an honour to actually carry the Torch.  Incredible memories.

I saw the relay in Perth in three different locations, couldn’t get enough of it.

“From 1995, the Olympic Coordination Authority (OCA) became responsible for the planning, urban development and management of the area and facilities for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. OCA played an integral role in the planning and delivery of the Games.”

The question I have regarding the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Coordination Authority (or whatever the final name of this Authority will be) is it’s establishment part of a legislative package currently before the Queensland parliament or is it going to be a separate piece of legislation that is put up for a vote after the establishment BOCOG (Brisbane Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games) ?

As we know decisions regarding venues, designs, games projects for Brisbane 2032 will flow from the establishment of both of these legislated bodies.

Just looking at the legacy use and plans by the Redland City Council for the Redland Whitewater Centre which will be a new cenue for the Canoe Slalom events at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Interesting to note that recreation facilities including a lake, water play course/park, a beach, an Olympic standard public aquatic centre with a FINA world championship level 50m pool and the Olympic Canoe Slalom course.

There will of course be temporary grandstands of course along the Canoe Slalom course to seat 8,000 during the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Interesting to note also that legacy usage of this Olympic venue is also planned to include emergency services use as a swift water rescue training facility, adventure sports such as ziplining, skateboarding, rock climbing, walkways, cycleways, orienteering and bird watching, natural amphitheatre, eco-tourism opportunities.

The Olympic Canoe Slalom course will of course make Brisbane more competitive in attracting International Canoe Federation events in the lead-up to and beyond the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Thanks Tejas57, you’re a legend.  A great find, thankyou, much appreciated.

It’s interesting to note that the legislation before the house is the Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics Arrangements Bill 2021.

Also noting the correct title of the organising committee’s name in the Bill which establishes the:

“Brisbane Organising Committee for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games (the corporation).”

Further, it’s interesting to note for those interested that the main function of the corporation is to undertake and facilitate the organisation, conduct, promotion and commercial and financial management of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

However, I cannot see mention in the Bill of an “Olympic Coordination Authority (OCA” so this confirms this body will be enacted with a separate piece of legislation.

For the many of us Olympics fans, not too long to wait now (as in probably first quarter of 2022?) to see some early key decisions around the organisation Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including the establishment of an OCA.

Equestrian / BMX events close to Briabane’s centre - Victoria Park

It’s incredibly exciting that the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic equestrian events and BMX freestyle will be veryvclose to Brisbane’s centre (3.4 kms by road).

Victoria Park for Cross Country eventing/freestyle BMX  and nearby Brisbane Showgrounds for Showjumping/Dressage.

At Sydney 2000, while Horsley Park was a nice setting, it was a long way out from the Sydney CBD (58kms) and it was a marathon of trains and then shuttle buses to get out there.  With my late mother we picnicked in the largely long grass rural paddocks converted to an eventing course which was the only  area that was mowed, understandably.  But we had fun, laid a picnic blanket down under a tree in the long grass and watched the horses flash by.  But, a long exhausting day and a long journey there and back.

However, looking at beautiful Victoria Park in Brisbane as it is now, and as it will be, what a nice place for locals and visitors to watch the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic equestrian eventing and freestyle BMX competitions.

You could literally conduct an eventing competition right now in Victoria Park.   At Games time in 2032, with temporary grandstands, and the other temporary facilities, it will be good to go.

The world-wide television coverage of this beautful course and the surrounding gorgeousness and greenery of Brisbane, the city, Brisbane River, mountains, coastline will be priceless.

Hi Tejaz57, just wondering if you any photos from around the city on things like the Brisbane Metro busways or the redevelopment of Victoria Park (I understand that was to have commenced in July this year.  Love to see any if you have.

I have nothing at the moment. I don't go to Victoria park anymore since they closed the golf course and for the metro there's not much there. a closed road and some drilling. The big projects are the new casino and the cross river rail at the moment.

I'm more keeping my eyes open for the rings to pop up (i suspect the first place could be the opening of the woolloongabba train station that i suspect will be called Woolloongabba / Olympic stadium - not that i have any inside knowledge on this)

How Brisbane snubbed the Gold Coast in Olympic power play

Quote

The Gold Coast will host up to nine sports and an athletes village, and put up $200m of ratepayer-owned facilities at the 2032 Olympic Games.

But it won’t have a say on how it’s all run.

In what’s been dubbed an “insipid and short-sighted” political play, the Gold Coast has been exiled from the powerful organising committee.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has given a local government spot on the 20-person board to Redlands Mayor Karen Williams, despite her overseeing one event – white-water rafting – at a facility yet to be built at Birkdale.

Redlands’ population is less than a quarter the size of the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast political leaders are furious, given the city’s co-host status, and have urged Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to override the snub.

...
