The only hurdle this bid has is public opinion at this point. Personally does Japan bid gets the games, hope for them to finally organize the "normal" olympics, the world expect from japan, and japanese citizens deserve. Quaker2001
I'm glad the words "games budget for" are included in the headline. Because it wouldn't have been all that surprising if they weren't.
baron-pierreIV
Yeah, but will that be enough to sway the Japanese public to 65%+ to want another Olympic games, granted, a smaller one, so soon after the Tokyo debacle?? I don't think the sight of empty Beijing stadia in 3 months will help that number either. (Although they had a fairly full Yoyogi stadium at last weekend's Grand Prix of Figure Skating event. And the Grand Prix series Finals will be in Osaka in early December. I don't know if even a popular Grand Prix series now will help the Sapporo bid.) yoshi
Empty seats in Beijing might be the best thing to happen for Sapporo 2030... never underestimate the desire in both China and Japan to outdo the other one. Why do you think Tokyo initially decided on a stadium that was impossible to build?
ulu
The Zaha Hadid stadium was an ugly expensive monstrosit so I'm glad they went with something more reasonable.
stryker
Given that there's talk of a public consultation (that points to referendum) it's hard to see this going forward. Once the financial numbers for Tokyo come out I expect you will see public support plummet.
