More evidence that the IOC with its New Norm and Agenda 2020 have still failed a crucial test - engaging with the public on a grassroots level. The PR problem continues and unfortunately the IOC refuses to admit it is a problem.

On the contrary, it underpins Agenda 2020+5/New Norm if the public opinion of the Spanish people is expressed at such a referendum.

I think Coates just did the same thing for the other "B" city - Brisbane 2032. :D   If Coates weren't well place in the IOC Exec Board, Brisbane would not have been front and center.

John Coates is the Australian Olympic Committee and was a key figure in the Bids for the 2000, 2028 and 2032 Games as the NOC President in his country. The 2028 bid began in 2015 and wholly within Agenda 2020 which was introduced by the IOC in 2014.

Brisbane’s latest efforts to land the Games first started in 2015 when the Mayors of South East Queensland got together with a Pre-Feasability Study of a potential South East Queensland bid for the 2028, later switched to 2032.  Since then the bid has been contunually rolling along with further studies, gathering support of all three levels of governments and the mainopposition political party, the general public, right through the New Norm announcment in 2018 and then COVID in 2020.  Six years in the making.

John Coates He is also one of four IOC Vice-Presidents but did not participate or vote in the Future Host Commission nor in any IOC Executive Board assessment or deliberations or recommendations resulting from the Future Host Commission about 2032 candidatures in the Continuous Dialogue phase nor the later Targeted Dialogue phase.

Any President if a NOC would be expected to be heavily involved in a Bid from their own country whether or not they have a position in the IOC, whether they are an IOC Member, Vice-President or President.

The IOC procedures are very clear around this and those procedures were enacted.

John Coates, as reauired by the IOC, stood aside and did not participate nor was a member of the Future Host Commission nor was he allowed to be present in any deliberations or Votes by the EB or the IOC Full Session Vote in Tokyo when the Games were Voted on.

Did you have to mention the C-man's name? That was only going to trigger yet another incessant rant...

Times have changed in Spain though - especially considering the Catalan indepence movement and probably much less will to bow to yet another Samaranch's personal ambitions.

Incessant rant?  Hardly.

A statement of the facts since the tired old line about the John Coates incessantly keeps getting regurgitated.

And I would say that Coates wasn't the only involved in brisbane being called preferred host city. I would add it was an strategy of IOC for telling Japan, OK if you don't host the games this summer, you may have to wait until 2036 to do so, or maybe never, we dont know, and if you do, you will have to go under a shadier process than before.

Or is it coinsident that brisbane got called preferred host city in february, barely weeks after international media filtered rumours that Japan government was preparing a cancellation of the games and a bid for 2032 in january? And don't come telling me that brisbane was preparing the bid years ahead, and made multiple feasibility studies and had the greatest, most modern and incredible masterplan IOC has ever seen, according to some biased user. Because yeah, they were preparing their bid since 2014 or so, but even having THE perfect bid, isn't enough reason to hurry up the process the way they did

Yeah, the only “regurgitation” going on around here IS the incessant, “tired old line” ‘continuous/targeted dialogue’ tripe. As if that really means anything, other than mere lip service.

They win the Olympic Gold medal in the IOC “new norm” propaganda machine event, though.

Well, it's JAS, Jr., pushing Spanish bid hopes.  Remember how his father got the 1992 games for Barcelona?

Absolutely agree about Coates. But they gave one member of the Samaranch family an Olympic gift already. And I don’t see JAS Jr. as influential as his father was.

I do hope Stop JJOO does not release someone else's personal info just like what happened to NOlympicsLA back in 2019 when they released the personal phone number of a restaurant owner just because he evicted someone. As someone who is against evictions, the thing that NOlympicsLA did to that restaurant owner is disgusting and their actions are going to be notoriously remembered.

Obviously, they’re not just my “conspiracy theories”, but as well as other members here. Not to mention in Olympic media circles, including this very website. And no amount of parroting the same “new norm” diatribe will change that aspect, whether you like it or not.

But hey, if you wanna continue to stick your head in the sand, then be my guest.. PyCadPg.jpg
