DOSB won’t make that mistake again of either not reading the new rules and/or not understanding them. To then launch an ill-considered public attack on the IOC really was really the worst mistake they made. It was a quite stunning mistake. Wiser heads in the DOSB will prevail next time so they can launch new discussions with a highly organised and high quality candidature for 2036. The Future Host Commission returned fire directly at them refuting their unfounded allegations. The Future Host Commission provided ZERO evidence to support their claim. Given the IOC perchance for being untruthful it makes the refute even more skeptical. It reeks of when the IOC blasted Oslo for pulling out of the 2018 race. Chances are you won't see a German bid for a while because of the spat. More than likely the truth is somewhere in between what is a he said she said situation. But just taking the IOC word at face value is the equivalent of taking business advice from a failed CEO. And the IOC is exactly that. The IOC has a public image problem and the New Norm, Future Host Commission, or the election of Brisbane is going to fix that right now Part of fixing PR is new leadership which won't happen as long as long as people like Bach and Coates are in charge. It was actually the DOSB who provided zero evidence to support their claims Nd it was the DOSB who had a rush of blood to the head and made this foolish, unsubstantiated the attack on the IOC. It reminded me of the previous US Presdent Stupid who claimed the election was stolen. It was sour grapes on the part of the DOSB and underlines why they were not elevated to Targeted Dialogue, on top of a few New Norm boxes which they not tick, eg lacking public support, full government support.
StefanMUC
Of course it was sour grapes and incompetence on part of the DOSB. Which made it so much easier for Coates/Brisbane to claim success of „New Norm“ as there was no real competition anyway. But I guess even 5k posts later, you will not have understood what people are trying to tell you for months niw and you rather continue to sound like yet another IOC mouthpiece. Sounds like you’re the one with sour grapes that DOSB made some monumental blunders in their candidature. Let’s hope they don’t make the same mistake next time. Scotguy II
I say bring back the bidding process of the 80's, 90's and early 2000's - bribery and all. At least we got exciting bid races by world class cities and very good Olympic Games...

Surprise, yes. I would actually still experience home Olympics at some point, but the way the NOC and then DOSB has messed up 7 bids in 35 years makes me very angry. You would be angry too if this happened in Australia. Still doesn‘t change the fact that all your harping on about the success of the „New Norm“ is just utter rubbish neglecting all the obvious evidence that it is an entirely intransparent format which Coates played his way.

Re-read my previous post. It was a he said she said situation. The Furure Host Commission provided no evidence. It's another black mark on the IOC. Accepting the IOCs response on this as face value is the equivalent of accepting Trump's election fraud claims.

It was kind of the opposite-- he was frustrated that in 1988 the AOC endorsed Melbourne over Brisbane marginally for 1996 and consequently white-anted the Melbourne bid from the inside. Are you sure you’re not getting him mixed up with Phil Coles? Coates was pretty arms length from the 1996 bid - Coles was the one ringing Atlanta each night and who later got caught up in the SLC scandal. He was the one Walker wouldn’t invite to the Commies: Why Melburnians maintain their rage at Phil Coles

I'd also forgotten about that incident - poor judgement I think by Ron Walker as it meant that Rogge (who had planned on visiting Melbourne during the 2006 Games) backed out (something about protocol of having a senior NOC member present with the IOC president?) At the time it wasn't a good look as the feeling around town was that Melbourne would move onto exploring a 2020/2024 Olympic bid (needless to say the idea never gained momentum). Sir Rols
Quote From cheekily sneaking into Pratten Park as a youngster with Gordon Bray, to calling Western Suburbs Magpies matches for the ABC, and now being a member of the Wests Tigers Foundation 13 with a grandson named ‘Benji’ — John Coates has a rich history with the club. When Wests merged with the Tigers, it was a natural fit for Coates. His first home was just a few blocks from the Balmain Leagues Club and a 16-year old Wayne Pearce painted the tin roof during renovations. … Wests Tigers Foundation I knew it! He can’t be a bad bloke if he supports the Tigers!
