sebastien1214 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Well, the weather is turning into a disaster. Until yesterday afternoon the risk of rain seemed to be receding but the latest models are predicting the equivalent of 15 days of precipitation during the ceremony. So we can always hope that things change again, but 12 hours before the ceremony... it seems complicated to me. Quote

Maybe it's one of the biggest disadvantages of a ceremony not in a stadium. 2 Quote

Aussie bum Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Good luck Paris and France for this evenings opening ceremony and the whole games. I'm hoping it will set a new standard. Any advice I can offer as a Brit being able to attend a home games back in 2012 is soak up every god damn moment of it. I look back on 2012 as the happiest and most joyful of times so really take time to soak up those moments. Im hoping we get the rings formed this evening. I know they are on the Eiffel Tower but I'd turn them off for the entire show. Then near the end when we are at the Eiffel Tower have a drone show forming the Paris 2024 logo, that then merges into the Olympic rings infront of the tower. Those rings then slowly get smaller and smaller over the position of the fixed set atatched to the tower. Then at the very moment they turn the drone lights off turn the permanent set on to make it look as if they were formed and then fixed to the tower, just like magic. Either that or a set of moving rings dripping fire like the ones from the Bastille Day celebrations, but that may look a tad like London but we won't mind. Bonne chance Paris! 1 Quote
Red Centaur Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 current weather forecast for the Eiffel Tower: heavy rain is expected between 7-8pm (5mm), 8-9pm (1.7mm), 9-10pm (0.7mm), 10-11pm (0mm) Quote
FYI Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 ^Okay, so if I converted that right, 7.5mm is just over 1/4 of an inch, which really isn't a lot. 1 Quote
sebastien1214 Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Tony Estanguet said they were going to adapt (an hour ago on the radio), but without saying more. Deleted scenes? Modified? Quote

I was going by the numbers RC posted, but yeah, adding another inch to the 1/4 in the timeframe of the OC is significant, since that's five-times more rain. Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 "Singing in the Rain" was set in LA; unfortunately, not in Paris. But time to bring out the "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" number? Quote

Last night, there was only a slight risk of some showers... Quote

And we certainly won't know for sure what the weather will be like until perhaps late afternoon. Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 How will the Torch Relay continue thru the streets of Paree? With an umbrella? Maybe that's why they have the small balloon over the cauldron?? So the rain will drip down the sphere . . . and? Did they prepare for that? 1 Quote

Yes, all the weather scenarios have been prepared; and they are probably preparing to activate their weather contingency plans. The question is, what do these plans provide for? The worst part of all this is the instability of the situation. But that, unfortunately, no one can fix. Quote

PikyoK Posted July 26 Report Posted July 26 Checking the Apple Weather app on my phone. According to the app, It's looking cloudy from 18:30 (ceremony start time) through to 22:00 when there is 30% chance of rain (also when the ceremony ends since the ceremony is 3.5 hours long). Sunset is approximately at 21:37 so hopefully it'll chance last minute so we can get that iconic Parisian sunset...just like the 2021 impressions. Quote

They use generic weather models that are not at all adapted to the type of climatic events that will hit Paris. Météo-France has the advantage of using more precise models that take these things into account. Quote
