WHO???

I had to look it up, but it’s the French formation aerobatics squadron. Like the US Thunderbirds or the UK’s Red Arrows.

I know this is not related but after what just happened in the US I am honestly concerned about the security measures. I really hope nothing bad happens in such a mass scale event.

i think that was a catastrophic security failure that could have been 100% avoided if secret service had acted competently when securing the area. Either way, I'm sure that France, Paris, and everyone else involved is taking notes and reviewing security plans once again to make sure they too don't make a lapse in judgement that could lead to something similar.

Yeah, I think the same thing. And be careful not to make too many generalizations, because with this type of reasoning we could be tempted to say "given what happened, let's stop holding political meetings, it's becoming too dangerous."

For the opening ceremony, everyone has been working on it for 3 years. Starting with security. I will say it again, but if there is a risk of attack, it is in my opinion much more likely that it will happen in the peripheral districts of Paris rather than in the ceremony area. Like Atlanta 1996 finally (whose ceremony took place in a stadium, which clearly shows that here the location of the ceremony was not of great importance).

That's what the BBC reported earlier today.

A lot of people on this side of the water will get a lot of flashbacks if the moment at 18:30 gets repeated on the 26th ;) Just kidding - I'm not a big fan of fireworks in general but the drones really add a huge amount :)

Trigger warning: Thomas Bach's voice can be heard for a few seconds.

Nice video! Thanks for sharing!

Lol At least Bach's voice didn't last 13 minutes unlike Tokyo.

Great display. I feel like this is a sneak peek to the Opening Ceremony.

In some angles, you couldn't quite see the fireworks because of the gunpowder. Hopefully it's not a problem and the wind blows it the other way on July 26

Will we see a repetition of this show at the OOC? I mean, of course not the same elements, but on the same scale. Or maybe they are preparing a larger area for the fireworks? Perhaps along the route of the Seine that will be used during the show.

Best way to see out the best Olympic Games ever. Hard to believe it's almost 24 years and next year is the 25th anniversary of those magical 16 days which endede with a bang and Sydney's signature fireworks setting the bar and making Sydney the firework capital of the world.

Weather forecast as it stands right now shows not much risk of clouds I guess.

And I’m sure a “no drones/flying objects” policy will be in place all over Paris on the night (or even throughout the whole Games?).

In any case, there is very good weather forecast for July 26 and also for the days preceding it, which means that:

- There is a good chance that the weather will be very nice and not rain for the opening ceremony
- That the flow of the Seine is likely to fall below 300m3/s again, which means that the ceremony will correspond 100% to the initial idea of 3 years ago (and even better, it was not necessarily planned at the start for the artistic part to be on the Seine)

Seven years we have been waiting for the Games, three years we have all been hyped by the concept of this ceremony, and we are now on D-11. Only 11 days left and we are 99% sure that yes, we will have the opening ceremony across the Seine, whereas for 3 years we have heard so many people say "they will end up retreating to the Stadium"; “budgetary constraints will cause everything to be canceled.” It's incredible and terribly exciting.
