Olympian2004 Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 Regarding the MIKIKO-style opening video: I had the impression that also during the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, the videos (or at least some of them) had that style. They all looked very similar to the videos used in the Tokyo handovers in Rio. Quote
Olympian2004 Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 Seeing the seats for the athletes, I wonder why they didn't do that for the Olympic opening ceremony as well. I think it makes the infield look fuller and maybe it would have prevented a few athletes from leaving the stadium before the end of the ceremony. It's more comfortable to be seated in that humid Tokyo heat and furthermore, it allows more social distancing between the athletes than when they all mingle. 1 Quote
JMarkSnow2012 Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 This aircraft metaphor could get interesting. Or weird. Quote
zigzag Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 That was some cool firework tech right there Quote

Olympian2004 Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 Now that is cute, the girl acting as the one-wing plane. The music at the start of this segment somehow reminded me of Sydney 2000, good old grand ceremony music. I think that they are hitting the right emotionality this time around, probably it's easier anyway to follow a "people overcoming obstacles and barriers" narrative at Paralympic than at Olympic Games. JMarkSnow2012 Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 But, but, but ... What will happen to the little one-winged plane? 2 Quote
Olympian2004 Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 The German commentators just said at the end of the "one-winged plane segment", "And this story is not over yet". Either there will be another dance performance with that girl - or, what would be a nice touch, the girl might light the cauldron? Just my guess. Quote
PikyoK Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 I love the rainbow fireworks and the costumes of the planes. I was especially attracted to the rainbow fans on one of the planes. The artistic programme was spectacular and inspiring to watch. It have me Pyeongchang vibes with the Paralympic OC of 2018. It had a girl who later wore headphone and rode on a flying ferris wheel with a silver dressed captain. So happy to watch. Quote
PikyoK Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 It's raining in Tokyo now. We in Sydney have been getting rain too. Maybe the raincloud wanted to see the Paralympic OC too. 1 Quote
TorchbearerSydney Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 The lighting is a thousand times better than the Olympic Ceremonies....they really screwed that up at the Olympics. Quote
