Is it something done for all Olympic champions when introduced or is it Bach's insistence? I don't know if any other presidents have been champions.

I read somewhere that Bach insists on always being announced with his title as Olympic champion and the year. He's just unbearable.

Really, was it that bad? I'm wondering whether the Americans even noticed that they were behind China in the medal table anyway. It's because in the US, they rather count the overall number of medals, I believe. And there the US were leading for the past few days already.

Because they have got too loud in recent years and wanted to turn it into a promotion of their political system.

Anyway, VR projections. Remember how Pyeongchang was criticized about it? In comparison Tokyo is going overboard with it then again its understandable.

I thought it was nice to include the athletes with their phones, especially as replacement for the audience. But I have seen more impressive ring segments. London 2012 was particularly nice.

yes! he just needs to be intro at IOC president. nothing more.

He won as member of a team, that seems to be slightly forgotten in these biographies which sound as if he was the king of fencing or so.

Wasn't Jacques Rogge an olympian himself?

Great upbeat rythm to this segment now

I love how Cotter says the rings are 'inside the stadium' at the exact moment the aerial view shows they're not there  Pretty effect though. Interesting musical nod to Coventry too...

Wow, this is really a Tokyo 1964 retro ceremony. They play "Sukiyaki" by Kyu Sakamoto, a Japanese song that stormed the international charts in 1963.

Nothing wrong with harking back to Tokyo 1964

who cares,

This is more like it, nice to see Japan doing a tribute to their amazing street performers - they could obviously do this safely but this alone is better than any of the opening. :)
