AmaniS
Are you counting m v f competition only? Why not add in the mixed times?
baron-pierreIV
I happen to watch a little of the AUS=ITA men's basketball coverage. I normally don't; becuz I am not a big basketball fan. But I did like the male-female commnentary. It made it easier to listen to. In Diving, I like Cynthia Potter's commentary; She is extremely precise. In Indoor Volleyball (my sport), why is Heather Cox just like the 3nd wheel? I like Paul Sunderland and Kevin Barnett -- but a little more of Heather Cox connected with their commentary, I think makes for higher quality broadcasting. And Mike Turrico is more palatable than Bryant Gumble of the past. I do not like Savannah Guthrie's voice.

Yes, we do have the mixed competition time. So far, it's made up a very, very small part of the primetime broadcast. Some days. NBC has not aired any mixed competition. Quaker2001
4 hours ago, AmaniS said: Such a shame. There have been been quite a few. The mixed team triathlon was good. This data only accounts for NBC primetime. It doesn't take into account primetime plus (a.k.a. "late night"), which did air the mixed team triathlon. NBC did air the mixed medley in swimming live. I know they had the mixed 4x400 from track somewhere (not sure if it was NBC primetime) I know this has long been an interesting topic of discussion, but it's really a somewhat pointless exercise for an Olympics like this where primetime is a combo platter of live events and tape delay and obviously ignores hundreds of hours of competition shown on cable. The data doesn't reveal anything interesting like it might have 9 years ago or before then when NBC was all about the primetime show and little else. That's simply not the case anymore. Covering more of the female bodies for int'l TV so audiences can ogle them more? Is this NBC's way of getting around "charges of broadcasting over-sexed photos of women's bodies" by giving female athletes more coverarge. i.e., more hours for male audiences to salivate on the women's bodies? Also, what can NBC and the IOC do about the imbalance of geldings and male horses over MARES? There are more geldings competing in the Equestrian events than mares? How about trans-gender and binary-X-horses? How come they don't have a voice?? EQUALITY in EQUINE OLYMPIC PARTICIPATION!!

Just a guess… To a degree, yes, but also because the mixed sex events are not, generally, in sports NBC considers draws for its primetime broadcast (the new mixed medley relay in swimming being an exception). During the Winter Games, NBC airs a significant amount of figure skating pairs and ice dancing in primetime.
