Vancouver is NOT at the table. The COC is. They understandably want Vancouver and the folks in Victoria to have a change of heart, but this is like the teenager who asks his or her parents for money to go out on Saturday night, gets told no, then goes back and begs and pleads. That's exactly what the COC is doing.

Or more like, when said teenager asks parents for a very EXPENSIVE expense, like a car. Parents say, when you get a job & pay for it yourself. Teenager then goes into their bedroom, slams the door & then sulks until graduation.

Dubi should resign from the IOC. He's just as guilty as Bach for pushing a return of Russia and Belarus, not to mention I think his PR skills with the press are so bad, I almost feel sorry for the guy.

There has been no official communication from either Vancouver (one would expect this day in age that either their official website or Twitter account would be updated following this) or their would be some kind of press release from either Vancouver, Victoria, or even the First Nations. We've had none of that and given Vancouver's dismal approval numbers when the bid was shelved, I'd be highly skeptical this is nothing more than begging and pleading.

Again, the IOC is trying desperately to avoid paying off the SLC and USOPC.

Now the one thing and only thing Dubi says here that is just slightly credible is the possibility of a future WOGs bid, likely either 2034 (assuming SLC gets 2030) or beyond that.

I wonder if the IOC truly believes they can turn one of these "interested parties" into an actual bid or if they're just stalling for time and they know they eventually have to make a deal with SLC for 2030 and Bach doesn't want to be responsible for that.  Not to mention how bad it looks that Canada has been in the discussion for the last 2 Olympics with 2 different cities and neither of them are as "interested" as the IOC would like them to be.

There's a lot of things going on that are threatening the existence of the Winter Olympics that aren't necessarily the IOC's fault.  But eventually they need to come to terms without reality if they want to have a future.  Rotations and climate change nonsense don't seem like they're the winning formula for that

IOC official still talking with Canadian Olympic Committee about hosting another Winter Olympics

Olympic Games Executive Director, IOC, Christophe Dubi - 29 March 2023:

  • “Our understanding is that conversations will take place again between the Canadian Olympic Committee and the local authorities. So this is during the next few weeks,” Dubi said during a webconference with reporters.”
  • ”So until then, no further work to be done either from us or the Canadian Olympic Committee. But we understand that discussions will take place, so we look forward to hearing the result of these.”
  • Pressed further, on whether those discussions are about resurrecting the 2030 bid or mounting a bid for subsequent Games, Dubi said “I would be more comfortable if they do respond to this very question.”

“What I can tell you is there was a project with an economical situation that was discussed between the parties and they should confirm whether it’s for one specific edition or a longer-term perspective,” he said.

  • “We remain hopeful that there will be an opportunity for all partners to come together to talk about the vision for the Games, and the lasting impact hosting a Games could have on the [Four Host First Nations], the province, and the rest of Canada,” said the statement from the feasibility team’s Chris Dornan.”
