Australia’s third Olympic Games in Brisbane is now a mere formality away from reality after the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Executive Board voted Thursday to approve the single preferred candidate, setting up a rubberstamping by the full membership July 20 in Tokyo. Under current rules a majority vote by the 100-or-so IOC members is required […]

So by 2032, barring any glitches, Oz would equal the US as the only 2 countries (and original ME Olympic Games entrants) to have 3 different cities host the Summer Games; altho the US would have 5 SOGs by then.

Another trivia fact I think you’d like M.

This is the first time since 1923 (when LA 32 was elected) that there have been three simultaneous future summer hosts confirmed (actually, you could argue that until Tokyo’s OC on Friday, that there are currently FOUR simultaneous future Sumer hosts confirmed).

The three simultaneous hosts apparent covered the same Olympiads 100 years apart (1924-1932, 2024-2032). On both occasions, Paris and LA were two of those hosts.

And…

both the 1932 and 2032 hosts were elected, unopposed, by acclamation.

Thx and congrats, Sir Rols.

Also another, but very convoluted bit of trivia re Brisbane becoming a future Olympic host.  If San Francisco had been successful in its quest for the 2016 Games, its main Olympic Stadium would have actually and technically been built on Brisbane-Bay Area soil.  Because there was a large swath of land availalbe there; and there was a planned Amtrak station, the (temporary) T&F stadium would have risen just south of the City of San Francisco border with San Mateo County.  Again, this was because of availability of open land and because Brisbane did/does not have unions, hence the construction of the stadium would have been considerably cheaper with not having to deal with the contractors and builders' unions.

New one.  What's Brisbane's plans for the Village?  Will it be one built entirely from scratch?

Still another bit of repeat-phenomena for Oz/Brisbane:  American city LA 2028 will once again be followed by an Australian city.  First succession was Atlanta 1996, followed by Sydney 2000.  So those plastic 'roos will be needed back in LA for the 2028 Handover!  (This was similar to the Canadian-Russian pairings in Montreal 1976, followed by Moscow 1980; and Vancouver 2010, succeeded by Sochi 2014.

From what I understand, there’ll be two villages:

Brisbane athletes' village: 300-hectare site in the North Shore Hamilton precinct.

Planned residential village for 2600 Gold Coast-based athletes and officials will be built at Robina.

4 in total,

the 2 above you said plus

1 in Sunshine Coast,

and 1 at **Kooralbyn for Rowing/Canoe Sprint

(**this will be based around a resort with additionaltemporary accomodation to supplement the resort’s existing capacity)
