That’s right @Quaker2001, it matters little whether a bid has a short lead-in time after being awarded the games like French Alps 2030 or a long lead-in time like LA 2028, Brisbane 2032 or Utah 2034 because each Games for a long time now as had an interim logo followed by a final games logo. But, like 2002, it will be the main venue for Opening & Closing Ceremonies. Unless they do a "hockey-themed" CC, there is no way the 55,000 seat stadium would be appropriate in so many ways for the gold medal matches. And what if Team USA in either category isn't in the "gold medal" match? 🫢 That's why this idea cannot be taken seriously. Quote
DamC Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 The IIHF would never allow an Olympic final in an outdoor stadium. What if there's a terrible snowstorm and you can't delay the game? Quote

Thus, not only a snowstorm but even some rain, would make the whole situation unsafe. As a matter of fact, Don Mischer Prods. cancelled a number for the Closing Ceremony with the 5 big giant balloons and acrobats doing their gymnastic contortions hanging underneath from the balloons -- a la CIrque du Soleil -- because winds would have made the entire act dangerous. cfm Jeremie Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 Hmmmm no! The act was initially planned for the Opening Ceremony as part of the final (LeAnn Rimes performing “Light the fire within”). Because of the windy conditions during the opening it was cancelled and rescheduled for closing. Yes, removed for the opening and re-slotted for the CLosing. You're right. Oh, all these rainy ceremonial nights are playing havoc on my memory. Soon, all the ceremonies & what-could-not-have beens are all getting washed away by rains and the passage of time. Quote

It's indoors, they could have had the opening ceremony there and spent the next 2 weeks building the rink. No question whatsoever the would have sold out the place. Could have done "Hockey Night in Canada" for the gold medal game and then reset for the closing ceremony the next night. Nice idea, but probably wouldn't work out due to the ceremonies, especially if they want the hockey final to be held that Sunday afternoon as the last event before the closing Quote
