Are they trying to make Brisbane look better? I mean pushing a joint bid with a dictatorship that's closed to the outside world and executes both foreigners as well it's own? Gee, Brisbane is starting to look like a world class bid in comparison. All we need now is Joko Widodo to announce Indonesia is interested and then maybe Qatar and their use of slave workers to build air conditioned stadiums.

They will go near Pyongyang if they think that gets them the Nobel Peace Prize. Which is of course very cynical.

In related news, North Korea just cancelled participation in Tokyo citing COVID fears. Probably the most sensible thing to do for them - they are even more isolated nowadays than before, and if someone catches the virus in Tokyo and brings it back into a country which has a health system that will not be able to deal with it, this could be absolutely catastrophic.

It’s kinda sad that it has been watered-down to this. When world-class cities are no longer interested in the Olympics, then the scraping of the bottom-of-the-barrel begins. Next thing you know, places like Kansas City, San Antonio, Charlotte, Leipzig, Seville, Manchester, etc. suddenly can become real possibilities. But then again, those cities would have to have a powerful IOC member in their court, so who knows.
