Toronto can do it alone!

Agree.

Toronto (and Ontario) should look closely at Brisbane and Queensland.

If the Canadian Olympic Association were smart they'd cut out this BC2030 nonsense and focus on mounting a strong regional bid in Southern Ontario focused on Toronto with venues in Hamilton, Waterloo etc. Would much rather see a Toronto Summer Olympics than Vancouver 2.0.

Vancouver doesn't seem to have the kind of support that'd be lasting, plus it's another province's turn now. They should let SLC and Sapporo go for the Winter games, then get fully behind Hamilton for the 2030 Commonwealth Games as a way of getting some more venues and experience in the Horseshoe region. I know there's the tradition of Europe every 12 years but that's not an iron rule - a serious Southern Ontario bid for 2036 would become overwhelming favourite very quickly I suspect.

It's not an iron rule, but if there's at least one-solid 2036 European bid on the table, the IOC will pounce on it. And even if there isn't, I can't see the IOC being so eager to return to North America so soon after L.A. 2028 anyway, especially when there's also the case of SLC 2030 or 2034. If there's something solid from Asia or elsewhere that the IOC might find intriguing if that's the case, then the soonest for another North American Summer Games is 2040 most likely.

I think they'd be crazy to pass off the opportunity to finally secure a host like Toronto / Southern Ontario. Its eight years after 2028, and in a different country / region of North America. And lets face it - Germany is totally off the table for 2036 which doesn't really leave many other viable options aside from Spain.

I'm not saying that it's impossible, just highly unlikely if there's a solid European bid on the 2036 table. And how is Germany totally off the table for 2036? It's way too early to make such a declaration IMO. I think that there's still potential for a Rhine-Ruhr candidature.

And in addition to Spain, the U.K. is already making some stir about 2036. Italy could also be a contender, depending how 2026 goes. And perhaps maybe Poland, Budapest or Istanbul? So that right there, are about four-to-seven European possibilities. And surely at least one of them, is bound to be on the IOC's right-on-target 2036 radar.

Personally, I think some of the luster has worn off "Olympics." So if any city is willing to run the obstacle course, go for it. In general, I think "Olympics" is suffering a bit of the same fate of things like "Grammys" or "Oscars." Or "NBA," "NFL," etc. Or where politics, sleight-of-hand (ie, corruption) and the idea of"participation trophy" are increasingly affecting culture, including athletics.
