I think Jaca will have a big boost thanks to the New Romareda Stadium, the new hig-speed train from Zaragoza, the new highway under-construction between Pamplona and Jaca and some other new infraestructures. :)

Yes, Zaragoza is renewing itself for the EXPO 2008 which will improve Jaca's bid too.

I hope that Jaca makes the shortlist so as the IOC could visit Jaca and Zaragoza and see the huge improvement in infraestructures of the bid compared with the 2010 bid.

They also could see the capacity of Jaca to host an international event since the European Youth Olympic Festival of 2007 would be celebrated in the same dates that the IOC's visit.

JACA: Previous Attempts

Jaca’s Olympic intention comes from far away. The main city at the aragonese Pyrenees has been from almost twenty years a loyal travelling companion of the International Olympic Committee. Since those remote days at the 80’s, where the then mayor Mr. Armando Abadía, begins the queries at Lausanne to know the procedures to be candidate to organise the Olympic Winter Games, Jaca has been present in four of the selection procedures, current one included.

In those periods the city mobilizes all its citizens and becomes a unique referent in all that means the Olympic organisation of winter sports. Once, on 2001, it has been necessary to excel Granada, on a previous selection organized by the Spanish Olympic committee, as this city of Andalucia, so near to the well know ski resort of Sierra Nevada was also interested in linking its name with the Olympic movement. The fact that there was two Spanish cities wishing to organize the Olympic Winter Games only reflect the Spanish interest on those sports.

Only a few cities on the Olympic history, even if for Olympic Winter Games is not far than 100 years, demonstrated a persistency as Jaca’s. This city realizes quickly and on a very intelligent way than most of the spreads values of the International Olympic Committee agrees with the noble heartedness and the wise steadfastness of the Aragonese people. Jaca has been candidate to organize the Olympic Winter Games on 1998 and 2002 and applicant city – as a new selection system or city cut has been performed – on 2010.

Why JACA 2014?

Because of the Olympic vocation, so many times demonstrated by our city, our region, our country and our mountain range, which have never hosted a Winter Olympic Games.

Because of the dream shared by all the inhabitants of Aragon and the entire Spanish population, who today more than ever, hope that Zaragoza (2008 International Exhibition) and Jaca (Olympic Winter Games 2014) will help them to achieve their plans for expansion.

Because of the ultimate modernization of a developing area which has been the starter motor for Spanish winter sports. Jaca has become the cradle of the white sports in recent years. One example of this is the creation in Jaca, by the national government, of a High Performance Winter Sports Centre in order to improve ice skaters’ training.

Because Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe. Although everybody relates it with sun and beaches, Spain has not only sun but a lot of snow. There are more than 40 ski resorts in Spain.

Because the Olympic games will be the best excuse to popularize winter sports in Spain, where there are plenty of enthusiasts but only a few athletes in top-level competition.

Because ice sports are in full expansion in Spain, with the institution in these days of the Ice Sports Federation, which means a great advance for all ice sports in the country. Because it would assist the consolidation of mountain tourism in the Pyrenees. It is an area of exceptional features across the Spanish-French border, where tourism and nature fit together with a high respect for nature.

Because of the Spanish liking for sports, in which more than 4 million people participate, and the enthusiasm which overflows at any major event. For us, athletes will always come first.

To introduce the sporting world to the beauty and the riches of the Pyrenees, one of the most beautiful natural mountain environments in Europe.

To help to build a social balance as a priority in the region in the 21st century, putting people first in all decisions about mobility, support and global education facilities, including sports and the health of the population.

To show off the cultural aspects of the area: Romanesque, the indelible legacy of Islam and Mudejar art, declared World Heritage today, belongs to the cultural legacy that Jaca wants to share with the whole world.

2014 Project

The Jaca’s 2014 candidature is based on a most according distribution of the competition venues. On this project, more innovator, audacious, and at same time to much compact, the original idea has been respected till the last consequences: all the Snow in Jaca and its mountainous areas - the two valleys surrounding it, the Aragon and the Tena’s valleys – and the Ice at Zaragoza.

This new project profits from the previous candidatures of Jaca to the Olympics Winter Games. On the making-up we deserved the greatest attention to the comments, recommendations and suggestions of the International Olympic Committee and of the international federations about the previous candidatures.

On this opportunity Jaca presents a project pleasant to the IOC’s and the international federations, designed by and for the athletes, on the respect of the region environment. We designed this Olympic Games with a well measured budget and consequently, it has to be compact, but also manageable and realistic.

The presence at the candidature of the Aragon capital city is the consequence of the other community great event on this century beginning: The Zaragoza International Exposition 2008. Jaca 2014 wants to improve the great legacy of the 2008 Expo and use it as the city promotional stepping-stone, hosting the Olympic sports played on the ice rink.

On the respect of the basics Olympics Bases of proximity and concentration Jaca 2014 extend its project over two competition areas, one situated at Jaca and the mountains, and the other in Zaragoza. The entire ski resorts of the zone, some of them the Spanish ski reference point, will be presents at the project, hosting the different sports to be played at the snow. On the ice rink we have Zaragoza, but also Huesca and Jaca, where it will be soon inaugurated the new Ice Palace, and will be constructed the Spanish first High Performance Ice Centre for ice sportsmen.

The Olympic legacy, with buildings venues as the Ice Palace of Jacas which will be opened by 2007 to host the European Youth Olympic Festival 2007 (EYOF); the environmental respect, encouraging on the skiers in all the environmental good practices, ignored till today; and the improvement of the general and sportive infrastructures of the region assured by the Olympic Winter Games 2014, are between the basic sides of the project which also have, as any other sports initiative in Spain, the total support of the public administrations in all and the altruistic support of every sport lover in our country.

Jaca is a faithful promoter of the Olympic Movement. Their values, as friendship, understanding, mutual respect, peace, solidarity and fair play, fully correspond to the characteristics of the Aragonese people.

On a world without borders, we still have a goal to achieve: sport without barriers and a common language: fair play.

Jaca 2014 wants that all the Aragonese people paticipate with the Olympic project

05/05/2006

The moment has arrived for changing of march.  Jaca 2014 begins to go out in search of adhesions. In the next presentations Jaca 2014 will try that all Aragón mobilized with the project.

"We want that all the citizens not only of Jaca, but whole Aragón, know the bid that Jaca presents for the 2014 Olympic Winter " said Antonio Fernandez Arimany, manager of Jaca 2014.

Jaca 2014 is going to organize some acts and public presentations that will try to make arrive at all Aragón the true dimensions of the project.  "We know that in other occasions Jaca did not pass the fist selection, but we also know that now there are possibilities with the changes that we have carried out.  We presented a realistic, solid project and armed very well with Zaragoza and Huesca like fundamental allies. We are sure that the message has arrived at Lausanne".

The 9th of May will be the first meeting of the recently created Executive Commission Jaca 2014, later an encounter with all the mayors of the mountain cities that take part in the project and, finally, a presentation to all the town of Jaca that it will take place in the Palace of Congresses.

Jaca 2014 hopes that all the citizens of Jaca add themselves to the project, and for that Jaca 2014 has invited to all its organisms and organizations to the meeting of day 9, in addition to a the 34 sport clubs officially registered in the city. There will be almost 200 organizations represented in the meeting, which speaks of the dimensions of the act. Also the active forces of the city have been invited, beginning by the bishop of Jaca, Jesus Sanz Mon and the Peña Zaragocista de Jaca.

In the middle of May, the Olympic bid will be presented in Zaragoza and Huesca, in two acts of similar characteristic. The one of Zaragoza will count with all the force that represents the social mass of the clubs of the capital, about 80,000 or 90,000 members.

Jaca 2014 wants to explain to all the sportsmen of the city, the reasons for which Zaragoza accompanies to Jaca in the Olympic race.

Jaca's Mayor: "we have presented a magnificent project, and I am sure that the International Olympic Committee is going to value the modifications that we have done.  We fulfilled all the requirements that have requested to us and there are no reasons to think that we are not going to follow ahead. Jaca will be between the candidates to organize the Olympic Games of 2014".

Sorry for my (Google) translation, I guess that the news will be available in English at the website soon.

Jaca 2014 Makes Changes, Wants Citizen Involvement

05/05/2006

The end of the first stage of Jaca’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games begins Tuesday and ends June 22 when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announces the short list for the 2014 Games.

In promoting Jaca’s bid Mayor Enrique Villarroya called the project “candidacy of the society” encompassing the entire Aragon area.

The first meeting of Jaca’s newly-created Executive Commission takes place Tuesday and later in the day all the Mayors of the cities in the mountain area involved in the bid will meet, followed by a presentation in the Palace of Congresses for all the residents of Jaca.

Villarroya said he was proud of a recent opinion poll that showed 91 per cent of support for Jaca’s bid.

He said, “now we have to add the social endorsement” for the bid which he said should be the same as the poll.

Villarroya said, “we have presented a magnificent project, and I am sure that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is going to value” the bid. He added they have fulfilled all the requirements requested by the IOC and there was no reason why Jaca would not be short-listed.

Antonio Fernandez Arimany, head of Jaca 2014 said, “we want all the citizens not only of Jaca,” but of Aragon to become involved in Jaca’s bid.

He added that it is possible Jaca would make the short list based on changes bid officials made. Jaca 2014 officials say they now have a realistic, solid project and are aligned with Zaragoza and Huesca.

Bid officials are sure that the IOC has received the message that Jaca’s bid has changed.

JACA 2014, I need you to explain this to me:

I know some spanish and from what I could understand there is a problem with the stadium? Well, wasn't it fixed with the ceremonies in Zaragoza? Or is there a new development?

This is from the Jaca blog

Yes, La Romareda is the Stadium elected by Jaca 2014 to host the opening a closing ceremonies.

Yes, there is a problem with the Stadium but this problem doesn't affect, by this time, to Jaca's bid. The problem is that the works to update the Stadium have been stopped by a judge, and, by the moment, the Stadium won't be ready for the EXPO 2008 in Zaragoza.

I recommend you not to believe all the news of that topic because most of them are bit distorted against Jaca, you only have to read the title of the topic to realised of it.

3) Espíritu Olímpico (Olympic Spirit), this is a great and quality blog about the Olimpics, in Spanish. Usually, there are news about Jaca 2014, these news are objectives and are taken seriously.

4) Sacha Blog, this blog has news about everything but sometimes there are news about Jaca. It is quite similar to the Jaca 2014 Blog, very critical with Jaca (Pro-Madrid 20XX :;): ).

5) Spanish Olympic Committee

6) Desde Jaca con amor (From Jaca with love) this blog is mainly about Jaca and The Pyreenes.

Thanks for the list - some interesting sites there
