Bangkok, Thailand, May 1, 2022: The IOC Member in Thailand, Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, joined the Olympic Day celebrations in the northeast province of Nong Khai on Saturday, April 30.

Khunying Patama, Chair of the OCA Culture Committee and a member of the OCA Executive Board, and other National Olympic Committee dignitaries took part in the day of sport, culture and education activities organised by the Thailand Olympic Academy.

Olympic Day is held around the world on or around June 23 based on the three pillars of move, learn and discover.

The Thailand Olympic Academy built on these three themes to provide an enjoyable and interactive day for the students as the Olympic officials continue to promote the Olympic spirit and values throughout the Kingdom.

The TOA hosts special events, activities and festivals and ensures that the positive values of the Olympic Movement - excellence, friendship and respect - are promoted so that the new generation can learn from them and be inspired.

Students formed five colourful circles to depict the Olympic rings and held sport, culture and education activities in the school hall.

There was also an Olympic Day fun run for all participants.

The new Bang Ping National Sports Complex is expected to host YOG 2030 and other future major sports events after Supachalasai National Stadium has been expropriated by Chulalongkorn University. This Sports Complex is located near Suvarnabhumi Airport.

NSDF handles the sports budget in Thailand and works closely with the National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT), Sports Authority of Thailand and the Sports Ministry. But Bangkok-Chonburi launched an official bid for the 2026 Youth Olympics but the postponement of the Dakar Games from 2022 to 2026 meant that the earliest the Asian city could host the event is in 2030.

If they get the chance to host the Youth Olympics 2030, they would become the second games in Southeast Asia after Singapore in 2010.
