In this phase of the bid it is very interesting to see that all of the bid cities all looking at each other. If one brings out it´s logo the next days another one follows etc. This is something that is normal. But to win the bid some of the candidates have to do a lot more. They have to separate from the other candidates to be successfull. What has happened until now is very ordinary or below. To win, besides PC, all others have to work a lot more.

Having a look at the bid poll there is Salzburg on 3rd place together with Almaty. First one is PC with 28%, 20% Sochi, 14% Salzburg and Almaty, Borjomi 13%, Sofia and Jaca 5%. When looking at the bid index for 2014 Paris was first with 66.18 before London with 65.07, Madrid 61.22, NYC 57.59 and Moscow 49.58. The difference between London and Paris was not so big and Paris get on top. In this case it was absolutely possible that Paris get on number one. It would have been a big surprise when Moscow or NYC would have won. Now for 2014 the difference between PC and the rest, especially Salzburg, is so huge that it seems impossible that the get on top. Also Sochi,Almaty and Borjomi are full in the race. Miracles are possible but not in this case. So Salzburg has to change a lot in their project work to reduce the distance to PC. I think it is nearly impossible but with the right strategy and the right projects it might be possible to keep the race open. From a serious point of view it seems to be useless to get into the race any longer. The facts are speaking for PC and against Salzburg. The only chance is to try to get as close as possible into the slipstream of PC and try to speed at the end of the race. It is no wonder if Salzburg would fail a third time (Sweden failed nine times). The trend of the bid index is very close to the final result. Only in case there is a neck-and-neck-race there is a change in place possible. The differences between the cities behind PC are very close together so it might be Salzburg could also go on third or fourth place.

Finally there is the great day for the logo-fetishists (numerous, I think). The logo seems to be ok but do not bring points for the decision. This is only an obligatory job, Salzburg has to do. Salzburg has to work more on greater projects to change anything, otherwise the chances are very "good" - see bid poll index. Nothing changed after the presentation of the logo.

regarding the logo: it´s better to create something original and not "copy" ideas (i.e. flowers, like other bid cities in the past). But this is a discussion which is useless as the logo is not one of the real interesting questions of a bid. It doesn´t help Salzburg - other things may be more important.

I assume after the presentation of the logo there will nothing happen until 1 February (questionnaire). After then there is Torino 2006 and the Paralympics. This doesn´t push Salzburg´s position (see bid poll index). Lookíng at Salzburg´s position in the bid race they will have no chance until they will do a lot more.

the "Austria-House" for Torino 2006 (Sestriere) made from wood and glass build in Pongau/Salzburg. This is the message from Salzburg for Olympia 2014. The area is about 300 squaremetres. Included is an information center, the studio of ORF and a VIP room. Costs about 400,000 Euro. Materials are traditional but interpreted in a new way. After Torino 2006 this house has to move to Bischofshofen (ski-jumping stadium).

In the tourism year 2005 Salzburg was first region in Austria followed by Steiermark, Tirol and Nieroesterreich. This was the most successfull year ever for Salzburg. They had more than 22.7 million stays in this year. In 2006 they want to get over 23 million stays. Next years will be a very exciting tourism year with a lot of Mozart events, the cycling WC, nordic sport events (Tauern-Lauf with about 25,000 athlets) and the Salzburg Festspiele with a lot of concert and 22 operas. This will bring another push. Also there will be a big tv-event a day after Mozart´s 250th birthday on Mozart-Place. This will be a good support for the bid of Salzburg for 2014 and for the tourism in Salzburg. This is an important point together with the culture (Mozart-year). This could push Salzburg´s bid into the right direction and bring fresh speed.

With a performance like shown until today Salzburg never will reach their target. Presentation of Logo etc is the wrong way. It´s a catastrophe what Salzburg is doing actually. The candidate seems not to have any other important projects to win. Sure, the other candidates also didn´t do very much (except PC). But if a candidate want to get the Games he has to do much much more. During Christmas and New Year the OC has to work all day and not going skiing. They have to work hard to do their job. In the 18 monthes they have to compensate 3 years. And then it is not sure they will win. Unfortunately there is a lot of steam without the necessary power. Salzburg needs the power to be a real candidate. As it looks at the moment there will be the same story as in past. Spending a lot of money for nothing.

If you are in a position like Salzburg you have to work hard every minute as time is passing by very soon. It´s a question if you are in the race or out of it. It´s not an easy-doing job where you have a lot of time. Every minute counts. The other bid cities also work hard.
