Where do they propose having the stadium now Atleti has commandeered the original one for football from the start?

It depends on how much money they are willing to spend. Decking over a railyard would probably be the best choice for creating land, but it wouldn't be cheap.

As for the stadium's purpose it would need to either be temporary or a national stadium like Stade de France. Politically I don't know if the latter option is viable with the national mens football team as one of the few things uniting the Basques and Catalans with the Castilians.

I believe it is possible for that stadium to be used for athletics, but it would require the team to relocate for a not insignificant period and I don't suppose the capacity would be brilliant.

OK, I found this:

Quote

“The extension of the current Madrid track and field stadium started by planning a football stadium with an approximate capacity of 70,000 spectators”, say the Seville-based architects, Cruz y Ortiz. “It can then be converted into an athletics stadium with a capacity of 60,000 spectators, should Madrid be chosen to host the Olympic Games.”

So I guess it'd be ceremonies at the newly refurbished and newly roofed Bernabau, athletics at the Wanda, Atletico to share with Real Madrid for a couple of seasons.

I believe the aquatics centre from the recent bids was never completed and the building intended for that is now club offices for Atletico. So they'd need to think of something new for that.

It's hard for me to believe that they can install a track in a rectangular football stadium and only lose 10,000 seats. Hampden Park lost 12,000 and it is already an oval shape. And the same will be true for the LA Coliseum in 2028.

I thought they would put this crazy plan to rest after three defeats. Specially now with this chimera mess of a government which has been recently formed in Spain and a possible new economic crisis on the horizon (have absolute zero faith on the sickos who are now in power to dodge it). Not having much hopes for it to be quite honest.

Well, at least for 2032 has the big elephant in the room out at once. And still the bid is practical.

For some reason, I gave better odds now to Madrid  - Honest. They may have better cards this time. Now, it's checking how to play.

Ironically, if there's something the chimera parties right now are looking is precisely the Castillian pride (even with different prospects). If the Spanish Olympic Committee learnt the lesson and show more humilty, the parties will back the bid :D Think like the Italian political puzzle seen during the 2026 Winter Olympics (which was capable to join La Lega, PD and M5S even when they were in war for other instances).
