stryker
Perhaps a successful WC this summer becomes a springboard for the men's WC? I'd like to see Australia give it another go. I always thought their 2022 bid got a raw deal (well apparently everyone did except the Qataris) and with the expansion to 40+ teams bring New Zealand along. SportLightning
Well, Haiti made it to the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023. They qualified for the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time in their history. That was a surprising team.

Durban Sandshark
We're now assured of the three intercontinental playoff winners being all newcomers to the WWC thanks to Haiti defeating Chile. Will more to say about it later. Paraguay-Panama match for the final spot is going on live right now in Hamilton. Now well into the second half. I sense this going to be a very even matchup between the La Albaroja Fem (Paraguay, aka Team Guarani) and Los Canaleras or Las Marea Roja (Panama)

Durban Sandshark
After several years of highly contentious relationships, "irreversible dysfunctions" with and rebellions from star players like Wendie Renaud, Marie-Antoinette Katoto, Kadidiatou Diani, Sarah Bouhaddi, Amandine Henry, Eugenie Le Sommer, Perle Morroni, Griedge Mbock following hosting the previous affair four years ago, the FFF has decided enough was enough and over with women's head coach Corrine Diacre and fired her after a hearing in the four months leading up to the WWC. None ever explicitly wished Diacre fired, but it was clear with Les Bleues' damaged image. Obviously, the FFF, learning from the men in South Africa in 2010, did not want a female version of this down in Australia and New Zealand and shatter team morale and unity. What's unfortunate for the Les Bleues women is this is a team with tremendous talent and potential, but, results-wise, couldn't live up to it and break though the door to the hardware for over a decade. Not just in Europe but in the WWC and Summer Olympics too. Renaud, for one, was stripped of her captain armband by Diacre, the first woman in France to coach a men's pro team in Ligue 2 and a ex-national team player herself before this, and even vowed not to play with the national team again as long as Diacre remained. As have several others in the latter. Many massively disagreed with Diacre's game setups. Will the distractions be blown over and all be back in time for competition. With now disgraced former FFF President Noel Le Graet, the one who hired her and kept her at arm's length, out over his alleged sexual misconduct, his release played an easy role in Diacre's firing. A time of reckoning is at hand: https://www.espn.com/soccer/france-fraw/story/4896643/france-federation-sack-womens-coach-corinne-diacre-following-hearing https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Corinne-diacre-ecartee-de-la-selection-de-l-equipe-de-france/1384877
