Australian Kiwi
What I meant more though is that the real test for the Matildas will be the years ahead with non-home tournaments and whether the home base rallies like they have over the last month. I suspect they will, but to a lesser extent. In terms of branding though (the original statement) our other sports remain incredibly powerful and cemented. The Matildas are just another refreshing new addition to it.
Australian Kiwi
Also commiserations to England - but well done to Spain. Some icky stuff in the media though around 'the kiss'.
yoshi
That's funny because we don't really think of swimming as a team sport, if we think of it at all. Does the English WSL get much attention in Australia, it's where a lot of the Matildas play, including of course Sam*? I hope you keep the momentum up, that goes for everyone. I'd certainly keep an eye out for Colombia next time. Why do they leave it so late to select the next host? *Wrong side of London but nobody's perfect

We hear more about how Postecoglou’s doing at Celtic and Tottenham than actually what’s going on in the fields and tables.

yoshi
Japan always wins the fair play awards, just for the cleaning up the stadium Have you ever expressed interest in hosting a Women's World Cup, I'd have thought Japan would be a great place for it given the success you have

Asking me to write down what I thought was the best team and my opinion on Udogie Vs Davies on the left. Somehow I was a senior player and I got increasingly anxious throughout the dream that Ange would realise I'm not actually a footballer and wouldn't last five minutes in his midfield, but for some reason he trusted my opinion. Durban Sandshark
Amidst the saga already surrounding them even leading to their WWC triumph and it's seriously one of the last things it really needs: RFEF chief Luis Rubiales act wrongheadedly in kissing unwantedly Jenni Hermoso during the medal ceremony and grabbing his crotch in victory with Queen Letizia and her 16-year-old Princess Infanta Sofía standing nearby. Oh dear... Plans to resign on Friday with a FIFA investigation looming: https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/38252085/spain-chief-rubiales-quit-hermoso-kiss-scandal-reports

AustralianFan
Luis Rubiales suspended by Fifa over Hermoso kiss President of the Spanish football federation Luis Rubiales has been suspended by FIFA for an initial 90 day period Rubiales kissed midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the medal ceremony after Spain won the Women’s World Cup final He says the kiss was consensual - Hermoso says it was not. Fifa says that, in addition to the suspension from all football activities, neither Rubiales nor the football federation are allowed to contact Hermoso The Spanish football federation had earlier said it was going to take legal action over comments Hermoso made. At least 81 female players had said they would not play for the national team whilst Rubiales was still in the job. Ikarus360
Whatever hopes Spain had of hosting the 2030 WC are pretty much smashed to pieces after this catastrophic embarassment. Worst thing is he might get away with it. I honestly feel very bad for the team. It was their chance to shine and the whole spotlight was stolen by this mysognistic moron, the same idiot who is also involved in corruption and sold the Supercopa to the Saudis. And the sad thing is, much like FIFA, he will be replaced by someone as bad or worse.
Sir Rols
It’s was already a torrid saga for the Spanish Women’s team in the lead-up to the tournament, and now it’s well and truly into telenovela territory now they’ve won. I mean, Ay Caramba! Coach clearly and deliberately snubbed on the pitch in the moment of triumph and then the national team winning a World Cup sends the football federation into meltdown. This will make an amazing @MeToo movie in the future, and bizarre enough for Almadovar or Guillermo del Toro to direct. And, yes, you’d think this would not bode well for their 2030 WC bid… but this is FIFA you’re talking about.
FYI
Isn't Spain/Portugal & Argentina/Chile the only two official bids for 2030 anyway? So can't see this as being such a red-mark against the Iberian bid when there aren't too many other bidders to begin with.

There's still this pending bid from Saudi-Arabia with whoever they can bri...convince to join them I think. And in any case, with the South America bid playing the centennial card, FIFA can easily pretend to do the sentimental choice without even mentioning the disaster that is the current Spanish FA leadership. On the other hand, I guess in many of the 200+ countries, those voting would have done exactly the same as Rubiales so will not understand and vote for Spain's bid anyway.
