Ekaterinburg, Russia, will host the 2023 Universiade. Chengdu (China) is doing the 2021 edition. It feels as if only Eastern Europe or Asia still care for this event so Napoli will be a fresh breath of air, being the first western city in a long while (Last one was Palma) to host the summer edition.

Opening ceremony starts in 15 minutes. You can watch it on Fisu.tv (remember to make an account on the site though)

Balich Worldwide are doing the ceremonies so I expect they'll have some quality. It's rumoured Andrea Bocelli is one of the starts for tonight's show

The beggining of the ceremony had to be one of the worst i've seen in a long while. Countdown blooper, and a very random and forced appeareance by the Napoli mayor giving a sudden political speech  Hopefully it will get better after the Parade of Nations.

Argentina entered carrying the shirt of Maradona (Stadio San Paolo is also the stadium of Napoli FC, the team where he used to play with). French team just got booed. And I thought brazilian fans were bad.

Very meh ceremony, you can tell the budget was very tight. Also in a strange movement they decided to use fake fire instead of an actual cauldron. Guess it was an ecological message or something. Chengdu will undoubtedly blow this out of the water in two years.
