Palette86
Quote Visitors to Tokyo Olympics website face long waits as lottery winners announced; overseas sales begin Over a million people nationwide logged on to the 2020 Tokyo Games website Thursday to see if they had secured seats at their favorite events through the Olympic ticket lottery. More than 7.5 million people registered for a Tokyo 2020 ID to enter the lottery before the May 28 deadline, according to a spokesperson for the Tokyo Organising Committee. Ticket winners are required to submit payment by 11:59 p.m. on July 2 unless they wish to opt out and forfeit all of the tickets they won, the spokesperson explained. At around 10 a.m. on Thursday, the day the results were announced, the 2020 official ticket website was backed up with more than 1.1 million people waiting to access the site and had a wait time of more than an hour. Many took to Twitter to express their frustration, with some even questioning how many people actually won tickets and why Tokyo taxpayers were denied the opportunity to attend an event funded largely by their taxes. The spokesperson said that, while the number of people who won tickets will not be publicly released, the number of tickets sold and how many remain won’t be certain until the deadline to submit payments has passed. “Those who didn’t get tickets this time will still be able to purchase tickets during the next phases,” the spokesperson said. “Tokyo 2020 is still working on the final number of tickets for the Olympic Games. For every event, more tickets will be made available.” The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department issued a warning that any email instructing you to follow a link to claim your tickets is fake, adding that an authentic email from the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee will not contain a link. For residents of Japan, the next opportunity to buy tickets will be through a first-come, first-served sale that will begin in autumn this year. For people outside Japan, the Tokyo Organising Committee will commence a third wave of ticket sales on a first-come, first-served basis in spring 2020. On Thursday, Authorized Ticket Resellers verified by 206 National Olympic Committees around the world were also allowed to start selling tickets to the 2020 Games. Whether they actually started selling tickets on that day and by what means — a ticket lottery or on a first-come, first-served basis, or both — was up to each of the resellers and their respective national organizing committee. Each reseller can choose to sell tickets in a travel package that might also include plane tickets and hotel reservations. In Japan, however, the Tokyo Organising Committee will only sell tickets to the games. Ticket holders will be able to sell their tickets through an official ticket reselling service that will launch in spring 2020. About 7.8 million tickets are available for the 2020 Games but this number is expected to change — possibly by a few hundred thousand but probably not by more than a million, the spokesperson said — after venues and arenas are finished and the seating arrangements for specific sporting events are finalized. The vast majority of tickets to the Olympics — around 70 percent — have traditionally gone to residents of the host country and that is also expected to be the case for the 2020 Games. thatsnotmypuppy
Cosport sent a confusing email - we have until Saturday to amend our request? I can see all the prices of what I want (though two sessions state $0.00 so I guess they aren't selling those?) - yet it says 0 confirmed after each session? It says to reconfirm the order but can't see where to do so or change tickets? And there will be a lottery and official confirmations next week? I'm baffled. But what you need to do is go back to CoSport's site, and go to your ticket request. All of the prices for the events you requested will now be shown, both the individual ticket price and the total price for the number of tickets you requested. If you no longer want to order an event you can click "Remove" in the upper right hand corner. You will then need to click "Submit" at the bottom of the page to confirm your ticket request. You'll get a popup that says something stupid like "Your interest has been submitted". Then you're done. You will have to do this before 11:59 EDT on Saturday (6/22) for each of your requests. They say they will send you an email on June 24 confirming whatever tickets you got (if any). You will then have until June 27 to decide which tickets you actually wish to buy and to complete your purchase (Visa only please). Of course, this is CoSport, so you should take all of this with a grain of salt.
thatsnotmypuppy
Yeah I think I figured it out. I'm not sure what to do with the two sessions that have a $0.00 ticket price. I'm guessing that just means my price point (B reserve) is not being offered - which is weird for football and athletics.
Al in NYC
That is strange. I figured you were talking about some events where they may be setting aside spectator space but not charging for it, like say sailing. But, yeah, football and athletics tickets definitely aren't $0.00.
thatsnotmypuppy
It's now been updated - but now Water Polo A Reserve is $0.00... obviously a few bugs.
Hobart
i looked yesterday and didn't think the prices were to bad. logged in today and have added AUD to the cost and its gone up. guessing yesterday it was in USD. Looks like cosport are still robbing us with a 20% fee. If i get half the tickets i requested im not going to be able to afford flights and accommodation. thatsnotmypuppy
Flights - Jetstar. They fly from Melb/Brisbane and Cairns. Book as soon as you can or perhaps fly to HK and grab a Dragonair or Cathay flight. Shouldn't cost you more than a grand tops. Hotels? Stay in Yokohama or Narita or in the Western/Northern suburbs. The transport in Tokyo is amazing and to be honest the venues are all over the city so it'll involve substantial travel either way. Avoid bullet trains. Jetstar Japan/Vanilla Air are cheap for internal travel. Japan can be cheap - even during big events.
eternalcobi
It has been years since I last posted here with all of you. As of now, I was saying to myself: "Better hurry up even if I have to take out a loan". My sole picks are the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The rest of my Japan vacation is under planning. Per CoSport being Category A is setting at $5,000 for both. I'm running a fundraiser because according to current estimates (airfare from Tampa Bay, accommodation, transportation, activities, equipment rental, etc.) it would run up to $50,000 at least. 5OlympicRings
Can anyone figure out if Cosport will release the tickets results on the 24th or 25th? The email says 24 but the website says 25. I emailed them and of course I had no response.
thatsnotmypuppy
I thought it was the 25th and you had to pay by the 27th?
5OlympicRings
My email from Cosport says we are to receive an email on the 24th but the site says something different. I am very nervous about being shut out due to overwhelming response. They said it was over a million applications sent in. I had just hoped I would not have to live in agony for an extra day Good luck to everyone in the lottery!
zekekelso
If cosport list two different days, I’d say it’s about a 30% chance of coming out the first date listed, 40% chance of coming out the second day and a 50% chance of coming out a completely different day. And no, that doesn’t seem to add up, but we are using cosport math here. Just to repeat something I said earlier, this is the first ticketing round of many. And the first round is by far the hardest for getting tickets. Over the years I’ve been shut out in the initial round many times, but have always ended up with more than enough. As the Games get closer many more tickets become available. I'll be lucky if I get even 2 or 3 tickets from this round - and am fully expecting to get none. 5OlympicRings
So the systems says it will add $35 for shipping and it never does it! My order says I have to pick them up in the host city and I never picked that

And if you add more tickets in the future, try again
